This thread scares me. I just received a car from my uncle for free, and we did all the work yesterday at the DMV, and marked under price "GIFT". Are they going to come after me now stating I need to pay the fair market value for the car in taxes, even though I payed nothing for the car?
BTW, sorry to threadjack, I just figured this related to the topic at hand, and didn't want to clutter the rest of the forum with such a simple question.
^can you add your name into your uncle's car title? That way both of you guys own it and might not have to pay taxes.
It's not under his name anymore. We had the car transferred to me on Wednesday. It's under mine and my fathers name. I guess only time will tell if I get that horrid letter like the OP did
I usually don't say this word, but that is the whackest thing I've ever seen. My GS market value was just a hair over 17K when I bought it for 12K. They better not come after me in my state lol. I did buy mine from a dealer though.
