So what? So the salesman won't even offer a price?? That's as dumb as assuming that the guy who walks into the dealer in a ratty t-shirt and jeans can't afford the car. Where is the downside for the salesman to make an opening offer?? He doesn't need to quote a price below invoice. That's a GUARANTEED non-sale, as opposed to a real longshot.

I had an Audi dealer treat me that way for an A4 back in 2000. All he would do would quote me monthly payment amounts--he wouldn't give me a price. this was after I had to wait almost an hour to get an Audi salesman (a VW salesman took me on the test drive, and didn't know a lick about the A4).

I encountered the same deal about only giving me the monthly payment price while I was helping my sister shop for a new car. Good thing I brought my financial calculator for quick number crunching. LOL
