Many of those JDM cars offer editions such as "Royal", "Athlete", "Majesta", and some others.
These versions have always been a part of Toyota's JDM strategy and mean nothing for the future of Lexus. We can hope that they do offer a sports package for the 4th generation GS, but this Crown Athlete and Royal have almost no impact on that decision.
Actually this is old news we reported a long time ago. No two versions of the GS. IS is based of GS platform. We really don't have any info on the next GS.
are you from Bearing point working for toyota or something? lol.
I think the two version in Japan worked b/c to own a "Crown" is a status thing in Japan and Toyota wanted an image makeover of the Crown. Hence the two versions; they go keep their older people and chauffeurs (at least it was in tokyo) to buy the Royal and they successfully appealed to the younger crowd to buy the Athlete. A GS doesn't have that status symbol image like it does in Japan.
Not quite sure what the target market of the current GS is but unless they are specifically trying to reach more demographics like the Crown is, I see no point.
So, the LS is going to get the 3.5L V6 and the 4.6L V8. Just like the GS.
How will Lexus differentiate the two when the 4GS arrives?
The LS rides comfortably with the best technology and luxury. It's its mantra.
The GS should therefore be less complicated: riding more sportily, lighter, and without all the bells and whistles.
Does it need two versions? NO. It needs ONE model that will WOW them all...
By doing so, not only does Lexus differentiate the functions of the LS vs GS, but also significantly differentiate the price point. No one will buy a slow (330 hp) GS460 if they can get a similarly priced (310 hp) LS350.
Well, the 4GS should at least be two years away(current one launched Feb.2005), & given their usual "secrecy", we won't learnt anything about the next generation GS for a while yet ...
