Default Porsche 997 GT2 RS

normal GT2 shown

The blokes at Pistonheads supposedly got word from an inside source at Porsche that the automaker is considering a track-day version of the GT2. The hypothetical Porsche 911 GT2 RS would improve on every aspect of the standard turbocharged rear-wheel-drive coupe, beginning with an additional 50 ponies, bringing output up to 580 hp. Center-locking wheels are rumored to be part of the package, along with Plexiglas rear windows and a range of body modifications that could drop some 440 pounds from the standard GT2's curb weight. The UK-centric site reports that ten right-hand-drive examples will be produced, although it doesn't say what total global output would be. If the GT2 RS does come to fruition, expect it to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this year, with sales beginning the following spring.

I hate to say it but GT-R....

Its not the only reason (there have been GT2 RS rumors for years and years) but it is PART of the reason. Porsche wants to kick its *** back to Godzilla's womb. Its obvious there are some people in that company that want to rip the GT-R to shreds all over the track.

Porsche hasn't publically blasted or challenged anyone BUT the GT-R and "they couldn't duplicate the time". So don't tell me its the market. The current GT2 is more than enough its as fast as a Carerra GT for example (for all intents and purposes).

That said, if this comes to light, it is my #1 I'd hit it before I'd hit Beyonce car. This car is going to be INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!

2800 lbs and twin turbos and 550hp? What!!!

I highly doubt they will drop the weight for 440 pounds. If they do it is not coming to US that is for sure!

i think you have a point, mike. please correct me (getting old), but the 996 gt2, they didn't have rs version right? i remember they only had the 996 gt3rs? i do get a strong feeling that porsche is bitter sweet about nissan's claim ever since day 1, maybe that's they they say screw it and do the gt2rs

2800 pounds and 580 hp, is just insane... 1000 pounds lighter and 100 hp more then the GT-R so for sure the GT2 RS will kill the GT-R

the car can do a quarter mile in like under 10.5 seconds probably and thats scary as ****!

I dont care about the hp figure...the weight figure is what impresses me. We need to go back to the days when losing weight meant something.
