In the C&D test of the Flex they showed a curb weight of 4,800 lbs! They got an overall average of 16 mpg. If I remember correctly CR got 17 mpg overall.

The 0-60 was 8.5 sec. Not that it's too important with this type of vehicle.

Yes, Flex makes a handy rental car/minivan.

MY thoughts exactly. I think the Flex has enough HP as it is. Why more? Isn't the whole point to use less gasoline with Ecoboost rather than provide superflous amounts of power. This engine is good for other applications, say in the Lincoln lineup. But this is just silly.

Personally I like "superflous amounts of power", but obviously there is a gas mileage penalty.

Think all you like. Go buy injectors for FI and compare the calculations to NA. BSFC for NA is .45 to .55. BSFC for FI is .55 to .65. IOW, the NA engine burns at least .45 lbs of fuel for one horsepower and the FI engine burns at least .55 lbs of fuel. That's a pretty big difference in economy under load.

FWIW, I drove this car last week for about 25 minutes. The engine sounds very busy at WOT in any gear. I liked the 20 mph to 50 mph acceleration, but 50 to 70 on the highway was lacking. It felt like it needed an additional downshift, but I think the engineers were very concerned about engine noise.

Interestingly enough the group I was in thought the suspension felt sporty. I thought it felt like classic American tuna boat. Floaty, imprecise, lackluster feedback in the steering, etc.

Ecoboost isn't bad. I will say it is impossible to hear the turbos spooling, and straight line is about what you'd expect from a mid 300's hp engine in a moderately heavy car. I would not sell my F to buy one though. Not at all my cup of tea.

This motor is going to change things up a little once its dropped in Ford sedans. I think like the VQ pushed up the bar in 2002 with its 260 hp AND 260 ft/lb ( the Acura TL was first to 260 hp amongst the Japanese).

The idea of commonly sold boosted V6's makes me smile.

Exactly.

People need to compare the ecoboost to V8 and V6 engines in similar applications.

The Audi 4.2 V8 in the Q7 produces 350 hp and 325 lbs. ft of torque with an EPA rating of 13/18 with premium.
The Acura MDX with it's 3.7 V6 puts out 300 hp and 275 lbs. ft of torque with an EPA rating of 15/20 with premium.
The Lexus GX470 with it's huge 4.7 V8 puts out 263 HP and 323 lbs. ft of torque with an EPA rating of 14/18 with premium.

The ecoboost V6 produces 355 hp and 350 lbs ft. of torque and gets about 16/22 (not certified yet) with I believe regular unleaded. How can people not be impressed by that?

i think what they mean is that this engine mated to their newer 6 speed auto's will be more efficient than their older V-8's and V-6's with the older 4-5 speed auto's

much trickery in their wording
