I really dislike the line that goes up the side of the car- the beltline or whatever you call it. It makes the front of the car look like a vacuum and the rear look like an SUV. The fact that the line starts low and ends high across the side of the car gives it this ugly and awkward proportion, even if the car isn't really that misshapen.

I really don't know what to say, when I used to see the spyshots of the C-Class and S-Class I thought it was horrific now I see them in production they look great.

Similar shape to what it was before but the trunk looks off. Usually the designs will grow on me. For example, the 745 was ugly when it came out but then it became less ugly as time passed and by the time they refreshed the car (to 750) I liked it.

doesn't look classy there, that one line that goes up the side of the car makes it look so high in the back
tails aren't that great either..
we'll have to wait and see

They need a sport version, like the C-Class.

I think you hit it right there.

I actually like the shape of the car, but the headlights and taillights are too awkward. Hopefully, those wheels will also be a bit more distinctive with the final production vehicle.

I think that it'll retain the benchmark crown over the 5-Series and GS.

I personally have a hard time figuring our which car I would consider the benchmark in this class...there are so many good options.

For 6cyls I would lean towards GS 350 or 535i.

For V8s, I think 550i is really the only way to go.

E Class doesn't really do much for me at all, especially when I could have a GS for a lot less, or an LS for the same amount of money. It's a beautiful car, but it's looks are about the best thing it has going. When I saw the interior shots of the new E, I was certainly not impressed. Like the C, but with wood on the center stack instead of black plastic. Cheap, cheap.

Maybe for a while, before the next 5-series comes out.

I think the next GS is going to be better in every way than the current 3GS due to the lessons learned from the horrible sales numbers. It should give this new E-class a run for its money but I predict the next 5er will remain the benchmark of this class for years to come.

Doesn't look like a Mercedes at all... Looks more along the lines of a Hyundai or a Kia... Which isn't a bad thing for them, but it isn't a good thing for Mercedes...
