Makes no difference to me if the car is sanded or put together by hand. I also don't really care all that much that some guy in a white jacket is listening to my engine before its installed.
it's called attention to detail, do you think people will still regard bently/RR/ferrari/lambo as the exotics they are today if they are all built by machines?
if you don't care for anything lexus has to offer, why are you here

On the lexus part I think its more marketing hype than real world benefit.

Fair enough, I feel you on that, but mine applies to BMW, all their current gen are a joke, that's exactly why I left them for Lexus (which I believe all the current models are superior than the previous but not in built quality)
Hand sanded alone means little without knowing how extensive the sanding went. Unless you have many many many people sanding the car at once, it takes forever to complete the job. Using a DA sander will result in a much faster and thorough job. But I guess they wanted to say it's 'hand' done for the sake of marketing
. Then again, I dont have a real problem with that because some kind of sanding is better than no sanding at all. My buddy's 03 Toyota Corolla has the worse orange peel I have ever seen. You can run your hands over the lower part of the door and actually feel the orange peel.

I do think Lexus has a lot to offer. I just don't think the that current Lexus models of cars are the best Lexus cars ever and I am giving my opinion on that. I happend to think the last gen of lexus cars (LS430,LX470, ES330,SC430) were the best and the current models have come down a notch.
quality of materials might be going down, but design and ergonomics are way up.

No doubt that Lexus has good attention to detail, though I'd wish they'd put more emphasis into how the car actually drives over spending time on implementing ridiculous automatic parking aids.
Where I do notice a difference is between USA made Toyota's and Japan made Toyota's. Many of the Japan Toyota are painted in the same factory as Lexus models. As for the Toyota USA models. Except for Avalon they stink.
