Not sure if many of you know this but GEICO was originally a gov't employee insurance carrier many years ago. Hence the name GEICO = Government Employees Insurance Co.

They still offer discounts to grade-12 and above Federal employees (which included me). In addition, they offer additional discounts for:

Anti-Lock Brakes.

Air-Bags.

Factory-installed theft alarm.

Ignition key/steering/transmission interlock (all new cars have that now, of course).

5-Year Good Driving Record.

A signed statement that you wear your belts every time you drive.

Multi-car coverage.

Dont use West Bend Mutual Insurance. Very highly rated, but i have been fighting them for 47+ months on a fire damage claim. If the sum is large, these people would rather go to court and drag it out than pay you. I think they believe the longer one waits, the less one will accept. Additionally, they have the use of the money for nearly 4 years in my case.
