Default MB S-class facelift spied

The Mercedes S Class has only been on the market for a short while but with rivals such as the BMW 7-series and Audi A8, the German manufacturer cannot afford to be complacent. Ahead of its launch our spies have caught a prototype shed of almost all of its disguise.

Clearly visible are the new front skirt and fog lights, a revised bumper, as well as the new side mirrors. There will also will be a modified layout of the headlights: while the flashers will move to the bottom of the units, LED daylight driving lamps will be fitted to the outer edges of the front lamp units. A slightly re-designed rear bumper and taillights without the coloured “metal” stripes will round off the facelift.

Engines are likely to benefit from a bit of emission busting tuning whilst the rumours state the model will be available with both petrol and diesel hybrids by 2010.

I know several disagree, but to me this is the ugliest generation of S Class that they've ever come up with. I'll admit that with the AMG kit it looks decent, but my god...otherwise it just looks like a banana with fender flares.

I have said all along that the current S-class is ugly except the front end, now they make the grille area look worse with the facelift

I always thought the current S class was ugly until I saw it in real life. What a difference that makes. It actually looks very classy. All it needs is the proper rims and color and you're all set in my opinion. AMG body kit? Not needed.

They're giving the S class the same grille that the facelifted E class got, which looks pretty decent up close. Not sure about those boxy-like mirrors though, just don't seem to look good on the curvy lines of the S class.

I love the looks of the S class. Best looking car in its class, no doubt.

who said anything about attractive? I'm sure the target market *wants* an S-Class, no matter how it looks like.

I have to say in person the car grew on me. It just screams "HEY I AM IMPORTANT LOOK AT ME". Which is a good/bad thing I guess. It did loose some classiness in favor of the big chest SUV look with fenders etc.

However with the AMG package, I think they look tough!!.
