I've had the Hendrick Lexus mobile guy come to my house once before here in Charlotte - he replaced the belt on my supercharger, lol.

They have one dedicated tech that does nothing but travel.

Magnussen in Fremont now advertises mobile service. When I pick my GS up from its 90K service I am going to ask about it. Just getting oil changes done would be very convenient.

Guess I should have looked closer. If you go to their service page they list a number for mobile service. Haven't tried it yet but I intend to ask them about it when I pick the GS up either today or tomorrow.

I've never seen a local Lexus dealer with a van in my area, but I have used mobile repair services on several occasions. The first time was to replace a fuel pump on my boss's car when the hulking Olds 98 blew out the diaphragm in my garage of all places. I called the service because I knew what was wrong, but getting that nice new car towed out of my townhouse's tiny garage would be a trick, because pushing it uphill out the door wasn't going to be easy.

Since then I've had a starter replaced, even a fuel line replaced by these mobile services. They are great for fairly simple repairs that can be handled in an hour or two right in your driveway. Anything really complex would probably require a shop with specialists and a wider selection of tools. Fortunately, the things that break down in your driveway when you are trying to get to work are often fairly simple fixes.

Independent mechanics that offer these services seem to be pretty good, and talking with a few I found it gave them a chance to run their own business without the huge overhead of a shop and a large staff. Great idea and good, economical service, I've found. YMMV

I remember one manager at Lexus of Stevens Creek saying that they do this kind of service.

The mobile service van is only used for the 5k/7.5k type service. Although Longo Lexus will send out a flatbed to pick up your car as well if you are doing a major service like a 30k/60k/90k. Not sure if the mobile van can take care of a 15k service though.

That's great to drive up the envy factor at the office by having them come to you. Only in Cali, it seems. I still think it's pretty sweet that they come to me with a free loaner when servicing my car. I'll just have to live with that, I suppose.

Yeah, Longo will send out a loaner vehicle on the flatbed and take your car away for service. When it comes back it will take the loaner car back on the flatbad after dropping off your car. Pretty nice.
