Default another 335i blows its turbos

I just read about it. He had a juicebox, BMS intake and AA blowoff valve and his turbos are done. 26k down the tubes since he paid to play with mods that would void the warranty. Here is the link to the car. I am starting to wonder more and more about these cars. I am not keeping this car past 4 years now.

That's why whenever there are comparable engines I'll always go with NA over FI.

wha??? when I had my Eclipse, I've tried over boosting my tiny turbo up to 20psi and it didn't kill anything... and I run daily on 15psi, then after I switched to a bigger turbo, it's still 15psi no problems....?

So he's got ECU, intake and blow off valve? that's it? that's what killed it? I've never heard of turbo disintegrating on our DSMs... when i switched out my turbo due to it providing not enough power, it's already 10 years old and it's got minimal shaft play, even after the filter broke in half without me knowing for at least a month! What's that turbo made of? clay?

The irony that the turbos are mitubishi turbos....

I still think this is few and far between, not a widespread issue...

I'm not a gearhead but it does sound like the turbo's should have withstood some extra boost. What company makes the turbo's on a 335?

I've heard other stories of the 335 not being able to withstand excessive heat. Looks like it's true. I wanted one of those cars but glad I stuck with Lexus.

Well I do not think Mitsubishi engineered the turbos to take those kind of boost levels... what is it stock 6 psi? probably over engineered it to take a little more than twice that much...

A) lease a car and mod it

&

B) Mod it with something that will void the warranty with no additional warranty to back them up.

This adds up to a high risk vs. little reward in the end. This is why I got the Dinan tune and parts. I still have a 4 year warranty in case this happens.

Stock System is 8 psi on the 335i.

The 335i can withstand heat... the ones that do not are not equipped with intercoolers... which are the non sport optioned ones

He took a huge risk by modding (and voiding the warranty) on a lease and now $26k down the drain...I hope he learned his lesson.

A normally aspirated engine will have less problems but a well engineered system with turbos will not have problems either. If you piece it together with different parts and don't get it engineered right than you are barking up the wrong tree.
