people don't want to give up luxury and convenience. There are very few people that prefer a basic no frills car (two of my friends being the only two I know)

Even suzuki's putting in a navigation system.

For a daily beater, my car needs an AC, a good working AM/FM radio hopefully with a CD player, power windows, power door locks and that is it. If it were to be my only car though, it has to have a lot of things, but then most of those take priority over gas mileage, so I'd probably buy a beater daily driver
