R&T does estimate there will be a Gas Guzzler tax on the M3 est. $1700
These things never show up on press release and often don't show up on the BMW web sites (he-he don't show) and so you find out that when you go to buy...
I don't know what standard features the M3 has but in comparison with the IS vs. the 3 series, the IS has a lot more standard features that are an additionaly features for the 3 series. That's what makes the 3 series extra expensive so if that's the case with the IS-F vs. the M3, then Lexus might still have the edge, a very slight edge, but I could be wrong.
with the arrival of the GTR at 70k, there is going to be a price ceiling for performance cars in this segment, you cant get too close to a GTR.
need to wait for an options list to come out, who knows what they will nickel and dime you for
very true.
There is a button (on the steering wheel) called the M Button which is used to store your preferences of shocks and steering control (etc..) and BMW charges you extra for this. IMO it's probably a $10 part and I bet it's a $500 option.
I mean something most people would like to have, I don't believe some of the extras they will come up with. I'd like the keyless-go, bluetooth, XM, heated seats.
I do believe the active shocks are extra as well.
I'm near ready for a car like the M3 but the GTR is the 900 lb gorolla in the room.
impressive move from bmw. btw m-dct (=dual clutch) is coming very soon for the m3.
can hardly wait. I love MT cars but for this class, I think I'd prefer a DCT, also the superfast in the ISF doesn't sound too bad. It's slow downshifts that bug me with most autoboxes.

wait for an options list before jumping on the conclusions mat, watch them still charge you for leather, paint, floor mats, on a 55k car. And good luck seeing any dealer ordering a base M3

It'll be interesting to see how much it costs (and of course the performance increase). I read elsewhere they will announce something next week in Detroit?
