Spy photographers stumble upon a new Mustang prototype amid the ice and snow.

A new rear fascia appears to be hiding under the heavy camouflage.

DEARBORN, Mich. — Snow and ice didn't deter Ford from testing a 2010 Mustang prototype out on the public streets. A midcycle facelift for the future Mustang was expected, but the heavily camouflaged prototype hints at an all-new front and rear fascia.
An interior update is also in the works, but spy photographers were unable to shoot the new Mustang's cabin.
Engine options are expected to remain the same as the current Mustang offerings, which include a 210-horsepower 4.0-liter V6 and a 300-hp 4.6 V8.
What this means to you: With the 2008 Dodge Challenger and 2010 Chevy Camaro breathing down its neck, the Mustang can't afford to rest on its laurels. — Kelly Toepke, News Editor

hard to tell ... but it looks a little better [maybe] ... less like a bad retro box perhaps
Stop playing games, Ford..........and take those wrappers off. They are ridiculous.

No. The GTs, Cobras, and the 4.6 get most of the press, and the 4.6 is more in line with the car's character, but the money is actually in the 4.0.......more V6s are sold than V8s, insurance premiums being one major reason.Originally Posted by SLegacy99

And, while not universal by any means, many of the people who drive Mustang GTs and Cobras are complete morons on the road......there is a reason for the car's high insurance.

This is mostly true... Mustangs are like buttholes... Everybody's got one and a lot of them are younger people that want to show off without spending too much. I personally hate the new design and the retro garbage needs to stop.Originally Posted by mmarshall

My point is that the 3.5L V6 puts out 60 more hp than the 4.0L.Originally Posted by mmarshall

The 4.0 was, actually, first meant for Ford-designed trucks like the Ranger and Mazda B-series, and then grafted to the rear-drive Mustang, which has a similiar live axle like the trucks. As an engine primarily designed for trucks, it emphasizes low-RPM torque more than high-RPM HP.Originally Posted by BLK98GS3
4.0L V6 is a joke. Its just a gas guzzler without the power.

The interior is more conceptual, but the exterior is definately production-worthy.

2010 Mustang GT Spied on the Road
Muscle car wars
A few days ago our carparazzi spotted a heavily camouflaged Ford Mustang on the Detroitt roads, and a day later Bob Lutz announced to 'pull the covers' off the upcoming Camaro, which now does its testing free of camouflage. The heavily camouflaged 'Stang was not just any new Mustang, but a Mustang GT Coupe (notice the dual exhaust) with what look remarkably like GT500 wheels.
Sources say that we can expect a mid-cycle facelift in 2010 for the pony car, and judging from the amount of covering it seems that it will be a rather big update with new front and rear fascia, including grille, headlamps and taillights.
If we are to believe the rumors, the 2010 Mustang will go into production early 2009 ith sales starting in either the late in the first or second quarter of 2009.
