Default Ford

With all the hype in regards to imports, my next car may very well be a Ford. A Shelby that is---based on the Mustang chassis. I researched the Net and can't seem to find a base price for the all new 2008-2009 Ford Shelby GT500. The top of the line Mustang is like $27,000 only!!! I can only assume the Shelby GT is around $40,000 + because of new motor and supercharger added to it. Plus, it's a limited release.

It's proably the nicest looking, compact sports car the americans can put together. 500HP of raw power, supercharged might I add!!!!! Who doesn't want it? It's a gas guzzler, which is why it has to be my weekend or cruising car. I'll still keep the car I have now for daily commute. What do you guys think of this? Pretty fast huh? The IS-F probably can't keep up with this american bad boy.

Try $50K with the markups because Ford thinks its something special.

500hp and 4000 lbs. Big deal.

A new '08 Corvette with the LS3 430hp and around 3100 lbs will easily outrun the Shelby and outhandle it like the Shelby was a Caddy, plus youll spend the same $$.

Dude, 500HP is a lot!!!! I think it is a "big deal". Judging from the cars you drive, it may not be so big to you but for the rest of us, it's more power than we will ever use!

Definitely. There will always be faster cars than whatever you drive, but the Shelby Mustang is definitely not slow, plus there's other aspects to it. The SOUND for one thing. Plus the mods will be a whole lot cheaper than those on more exotic vehicles.

I don't care for the stripe on the Shelby (maybe that's optional?) but you'll definitely have fun in this modern muscle car. You might also look at getting a Mustang GT and modding it - it might be way cheaper.

I see now on Ford's web site there's also a 2008.5 Shelby GT500KR with 540HP, fiberglass hood and a few more tweaks!

Just don't expect a lot of love on a Lexus bulletin board.

the shelby is not worth the money the roush mustang is a better buy, even though it doesnt have as much horsepower, it is faster around a track and is more fun to drive ( due to the independent coil over rear suspension ) I would also wait for the new camero to com out too, that car looks wicked, for 50 large u probably have better options out there.....isnt the is-f in the same price range??

roush mustang > shelby, at least they had the knowledge to upgrade the suspension and brakes when weight was added to the car unlike shelby. Go watch Top Gears test of a shelby, its pretty bad

Thumbs up

I love the mustang as well, especially the exhaust note is intoxicating
Personally, I like it better than the porsche and lambos (personal opinion)

TRD, you sure this guy has no influence on you?-I know it's a saleen though

The Vette is better than the Stang in almost every way imaginable. It's faster too, even though it has less hp.

The one area the Vette can't compete in is sound though, Mustangs sound bada$$, although it's not too hard to put an aftermarket exhaust on a Vette
