Toyota/Subaru/Scion Lightweight Sports Car: Toyota GT86, Subaru BRZ, Scion FRS!
#1066
Last night I actually typed out the same thing that Mike said above but didn't bother posting.
Let's not forget that there are three versions of this car - Subaru, Toyota and Scion - and Subaru has yet to even show us what their car is going to look like. To me, this looks very similar to the Toyota FT86II concept that Europe will be gettng, and less like the Scion FR-S which is bound for the States. This version doesn't have the curves that we saw in the Scion.
The FR-S was such a show stopper that I'd be surprised if Toyota dumbed down the design significantly for production. Most of the design looked ready for the showroom as-is.
The cabin on this prototype looks a bit larger/bulkier than I recall on any of the concepts...a sad but probable reality for production.
Much of the sharpness in the FT86II was in the details...things we cannot see from these camoflaged pictures.

We need to accept that FR-S was basically wide-body version of what will be future FR-S.

Scion’s version of Toyota’s rear-drive FT-86 chassis is spotted lapping the Nürburgring—with a huge rear wing!
The Scion FR-S has left the bright lights of New York City for the twists and turns of the world famous Nürburgring. Last seen during the New York Auto Show, the Scion FR-S (Front engine, Rear wheel drive, Sport) concept was sporting notably flashy bodywork courtesy of Five Axis, a show car and customization house in Southern California. We never expected the concept car’s massive 20-in. wheels and rear diffuser to reach production. But we hoped the aggressive contours of this sports coupe would remain (relatively) intact.
The FR-S prototype spotted near the Nürburgring has confirmed our suspicions—the production model will be more toned down in overall appearance. Even though a large Supra-esque rear wing and a more aggressive chin spoiler and side skirts appeared on the car in the latter stages of testing at the ‘Ring, the disguised production car still looks tame compared to the stunning FR-S concept. We really miss the gorgeous peaked fenders we saw in New York. The large exhausts hint that this affordable rear-wheel-drive coupe should be a riot to drive.
Developed by both Toyota and Subaru, the Scion FR-S will be powered by a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter flat-4 engine that produces about 200 bhp. A 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel mounted paddle shifters will be available. There will also be a Subaru version. All-wheel-drive and turbocharged engines could make their way into the range (either in the Scion or, more likely, the Subaru).

this is obviously factory premium version, it has xenons and headlight washers.
which is great. i was concerned this car will be option-less due to the low starting price.
this shows that rear flanks definetly still have those curvy lines like in concepts!
A lot more great shots here... it was sunny day so much better!
