So I visited a friend yeterday and his wife has a E60 M5.. I give him a ride few days ago in my car when he came over to my work so I ask him can I check out his wife's car.. he said sure and got to key from his wife and just hand me to key.. he told me to take it for a spin but I don't feel like beating up his wife's car so I give the key back to him and ask him to drive show me what the car can do.. both of us and his friend jump in the car he did a few hard acclaration and went side way in a corner but to me the car doesn't feel fast at all... it handle pretty well and the V10 sounds good but riding in that car just don't feel as exciting as me riding in my old M5 years ago... compare to the E55 it pull way harder during hard acclaration..the E55 has planty of low end touque which I like but the M5 feel like it has no touque... and i doesn't like the tranny either it was pretty jerky... once upon a time the new M5 was on my top of my shopping list but after the ride from yesterday may be not... what a disappointment
yeah I think so too hopefully I can to find a fellow member here who is willing to let me borrow their IS-F for a day or 2 so I can drive it and make sure I like it before I buy it
the M5 feel like it has no touque... and i doesn't like the tranny either it was pretty jerky...
I wouldn't be surprised if the torque curve is pretty flat on that car maybe it not feel as torque-laden. Also, I don't quite understand this (I'm not knowledgeable much on the HP/tq relationship, but the M5 has 500HP and the torque is 383lb/ft which seems kind of low.
As for the SMG (if that's what you're referring to) - no thanks. It has been criticized a lot as being jerky and not good for a daily driver. If it's a stick, then that has a lot to do with the driver, and driving a stick with 500HP smoothly isn't that easy.
i believe because the high revs of the M5 kind of kill the low-end torque.
engines that rev screamingly high, say modern Ferraris and (i can't believe that I'm comparing a Honda engine here...) Honda engines both lack low-end torque but put out power at the high ends of the tach..
I don't think there is a petrol BMW that has the low-end grunt you're going to find in an AMG Mercedes (except perhaps the twin-turbo 335i/535i). BMW does not make its engines pull hard at one end of the rpm spectrum or another. Instead, they like to make their engines have a flat, smooth power delivery. The M5 is very fast, but it feels smooth and it doesn't all come at you in one big rush. And it revs to 8250rpm. Try getting an E55 to do that!
If you want the "seat of the pants" kind of torque, look at the 335i or 535i. Now, those DO have a lot of low end torque, namely 300 lb/ft from 1500-5500rpm. Or you could buy a BMW diesel but clearly that's not here yet.
