I'm glad my X3 is so heavily based off the E46. The controls (buttons) work the way they're supposed to without the stupid *****. And I have a dipstick!!!!!

I definitely see where you are coming from, BMWs became less raw and more all around gadget filled cars. While I like the refinement of the 335i's ride, I do miss some things that were in the previous generation cars. E39/E46/etc. were definitely classic body styles.
Dipstick.
Dipstick.

A V8 doesn't sound like an I-6. It's purely personal preference. I'm sure the new V8 will be better in everyway. Just like how all the newer BMWs are better than the older BMWs in everyway. But I still like the older ones. E39>E60, E46>E90, E38>E65, E53>E70. You get the picture. Same statement applies to styling. Personal preference.

The M3 body is a wider version of the 3 series coupe, the engine is more balanced, the suspension is uncomparable, the steering has alot more feel, torqueless? It sounds like you haven't driven one. The M division is there for a reason.
