Default Lexus offering me Radar system

They are offering me a $2500 radar system in the dash that has sensors on the back and front. I am getting it discounted to $1500. Does anyone know if this is a good deal? Are there any good radars out there that can be hidden?

What type of radar? Is this the PCS radars that is an option for the IS?

And most important: do you need it?

OIC!

Is that even legal for a dealership to install? I'm gonna move this to Car Chat for more opinions...

While I don't have it on my Lexus I did have the Calibre system installed on the Range Rover, I love the system and the best part is even if you do get pulled over police don't realize that it is even there. I remember that I got pulled over with my V1 one time and the officer said "I wasn't going to give you a ticket, until I saw your detector." Oh and if I recall correctly I paid about $1450 for the install job at Land Rover.

Does it just recognize cops on the road? Have you been pulled over yet?

One of my detailing customers had a K40 installed on her SL600 at MB when she bought it...I'm guessing she paid an arm and a leg. 1500 sounds like a pretty good price IMO....

I would pass and get a Valentine One or the new Passport 9500I.

I have a dealer installed K40 in my GS and other than the stealth install I am not impressed with it. Granted its a couple of generations back from the current, but the price IMO isn't worth it.

way too much money. get something cheaper and use the extra money for the 1 or 2 tickets you MIGHT get. because you will still get tickets with the K40. Both V1 and 9500i are cheaper and better than K40.

Strange about the cop. I have had several dozen cops see my radar detector in my windshield, I had it mute but it was lit up still, and I still got warnings. They never said anything negative, in fact, they sometimes tell me "those things don't work." lol

Police are often nailing speeders now from aircraft (VASCAR), especially on the Interstates......regardless of what kind of anti-radar or laser stuff you put in your car There is little defense against it short of just slowing down.

I'd say save your money and put it toward something that will yield better returns. Watching your speed is a much better investment.

I have it and it's great!

$1,500 is a good price, I'd also suggest you get the diffuser for the front plate ~ $300 more.

I have seen them in cars from Lexus and i agree they arent that great. i would go with the Valentine V1 radar. you can install it really close to the top of the windshield and most people wont see it if you get pulled over. your car does sit some what low...
