I know the poll is new but surprised at the number who have said who cares.

Without going into detail, there is a very good reason to hide your tag on internet. Ask your law enforcement friends. And if you notice the reality shows, they blur the tag on cars in view and not just the famous person's and likely for the reason about which I will not go into detail.

There have been more than one instance of guys cars being stolen and parted out by guys who found them via the plates on forums. Nevermind the fact that dealers and law enforcement both troll forums. It takes about 3 seconds to blur a plate.

Your tag in America is public record for all to see(well last I checked anyway). I can pull your tag number at your local court house if I got a problem with ya. And every entertainment magazine I have seen a celebrity's tag has been in clear sight.

I don't know the details, if you have to be a citizen of a county or blah .. blah.

I guess over the net it gives folks a sense of closure to not have their tag shown.

If someone really wants to find your car, they'll be able to do it.

Whether or not you post it on a forum, or a guy on the street sees your car -- if someone is really interested in stealing your car, they'll find a way to do it...

I say why not. If the technology is there and it takes only a few seconds. It can't hurt.

Down here in Mexico, theft is rampant.

My cousin has a 1995 VW Golf VR6, http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2224711 Ok in the U.S., not a big deal, but that kind of Golf with that motor is prized. On purpose, we registered his tag in the neighboring state where I live with a friend of the family.

That friend of the family gets asked SEVERAL times a week by people who ring his bell and want to see if my cousin Carlos is home, and they say there are friends. Each time he sees these people scan their eyes looking past the grate in the wall looking for that vehicle. He always tells them I have no idea to whom you are referring. A few people come by and ask to want to see the Golf that is for sale, and he says what Golf?

Having a friend down here in the DMV will give you all the information you need. I have had several track friends become the victim of theft and I always keep a watchful eye in our track pits for anyone copying down or photographing plates.

Definitely true.

Still, why make it any easier for people who troll the forums. It takes less than a minute to blur it out. I think it is definitely worth the extra time.

I never thought it was a big deal because thousands of people see your tag everyday in the streets. Also, as stated previously, it's not hard to get someone's tag if you really want. On the other hand, if it only takes a minute, might as well blur it.
Someone please provide step by step instructions how to blur.
