Hummer rear ends School Bus Pic
#46
Anyone who says that the H2 is built like crap doesn't know what they are talking about (unless you're talking about reliability). Although it shares GM's GMT820 truck platform with the Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon, those vehicles differ in many ways and are constructed in three other GM plants. The H2's final frame assembly is made up of 3 sections: The front uses a modified GM 2500HD-Series utility frame, the mid-section is all new and is completely boxed, and the rear section uses a modifed GM 1500HD-Series frame which is upgraded for the 8,600 pound (3629 kg) gross vehicle weight.
If any of you have seen the frame on the 2500HD you know it's NOT a small frame.

quoted for truth.
but its all the people who compare it to the H1, or the military Humvee that say its "not a real hummer"
well no crap its not a H1. they didnt design it that way, didnt intend for it to complete with, and never said that it was compareable to a H1.

I agree that this looks a little fishy, but there are two factors at work here:
- School buses are built like armored cars in that their frame is VERY strong, particularly reinforced against rear-end collisions to protect that very precious cargo inside.
- A school bus has that rigid frame set rather high - normal passenger cars, SUV's and light trucks will almost always run UNDER that big bumper - as did all of the structural strength of that H3. The Hummer's frame completely missed the bumper, leaving all of the force of the impact to be dissipated by the rather fragile body - hence the high level of damage.

Why did you hilight the statement that the bus driver pulled over to take the cell call (if you must take a cell call in the car, this is what you should do), and not hilight the fact that the hummer driver obviously wasn't paying any attention to where he was going? What if it had been a group of school kids crossing the road instead of a parked school bus?
This Hummer driver learned a valuable lesson.

OK, but the bus driver got the ticket for an improper stop. There are places where it is illegal to stop - typically the sign says, "Emergency stopping only" and it is common on limited access roads. It's also illegal to stop on the road in most states unless there is a mechanical problem with the vehicle preventing it from being moved. If there was no shoulder, it's illegal to stop, she got a ticket for it. Cell phone or not, you're driving first. That's why we have voicemail.
