If your priorities are sport over utility and luxury, than go for it. It is reliable (there are some issues but nothing major), the V-6 and V-8 Fxs are swift and to the SUVs credit, they look like nothing on the road.
On the downside, they look like nothing on the road (my girlfriends were trying to describe it to me recently and "hat" and "shoe" came up as descriptions), the ride is harsh, utility is worse than even a small station wagon.
Genearch had one (got a X5 to replace it).
It really is a niche vehicle, some owners love it, most people don't get it.

haha. the shoe and hat commen cracked me up. Well theirs 3 things i love about it. #1. the HID headlights. They are awesome,
#2. the futuristic look of the headlight and tailights.
#3. its a sporty suv thats not oversized but yet its capable of towing things.

I think you are thinking of the QX56, which you are right about.

avg. on Consumer Reports and they actually recommend it. Sorry
for the confusion. The QX is the complete bomb.

Look is always subjective. I personally think it's a great looking SUV.
However, interior quality is horrible. If you don't get the Navi, the central dash display is a joke. If you are taller than 5'9", don't expect to take your coworkers out for lunch with your car unless you really hate them -- the rear space is a joke. Loading is tall, trunk is an absence.
Handling is great, for a car this tall, but you have to trade off with ride quality.

I always like the distinctive & aggressive styling of the FX. The upgraded interior since last year isn't too bad. But yes the ride is stiff & sporty, & the cargo space is worse than some smaller station wagons, plus the rear door entry access is not good. Still, I considered getting one 3 years ago . . .

The FX was one of the sporty suv's I tested before I decided to go with the X3. It has a beautiful exterior, but feels like a cocoon inside imo. It is a easy fit for one over 6 feet but, I don't like the driving position and view with the longish hood. The ride feels a bit stiffer than my x3 and is very bouncy. Not good for everyday. The Exhaust note is intoxicating and sounds like the G35 coupe If you are buying new, look at the BMW X3/X5 offerings. The new 3.0 inline 6 has 260 horses (underrated), and they drive like there sedan/coupe equals. Used, I would look at the X5 4.8 VW/Porshe Cayanne are ok, but have too much body roll for sporty suv's. Every other suv on the market feels like "an suv".

we are on our 2nd FX35
we go 1st one first week they came out 39month lease, not a single problem, all i did was change oil.
this summer we switched to 06 FX35 (with updated interior) what a big improvement, i like the car then, i like it even more now.

I can't imagine(esp. the FX) anything being harsher than that.
If you don't care for the interior space of that vehicle, then I would go for it too

It's pretty cool and has nice features (HIDs, LED brake lights, Intelligent Key etc) but I wouldn't buy/own one.
1. rear seat is small for a midsize SUV. The Murano manages to look nice and be practical
2. 20" rims look cool and make this thing look like a tank. I'd hate to see the cost of replacement though.
3. blindspot - the 3rd window is useless. So effective you can't see anything beyond the rear right window.
