got a ticket today.. cop put wrong zip code.. can I beat it??
I just got a ticket today in long island...
home is in staten island, and the cop wrote a ticket with the correct street address, city, state but wrong zip code(he wrote the zip code for long island.. about 80 miles away from the correct zip.)
The cop said I was speeding, ran a stop sign and I didnt have my license on me(left it at home).. pretty much he said he was giving me a break by giving me a ticket for the stop sign only...
would I be able to beat the ticket because of the zip code error?

actually, you might not get away. the ticket is supposed to be "correct", but if it's just slight mistake say misspell your name, or slight off on address, i believe the judge can "waive" it and keep the ticket valid
now of course, if you drive a toyota and he writes honda....

Nope.
I've had minor errors on mine over the years...none were technical enough to be dismissed. I still was observed: speeding, equipment violations...blah-blah.
One buddy didn't appear because he thought because his DL was written incorrectly that they wouldn't find him...wrong. They did catch-up with him and now he had that FTA to take care of.

In long island you dont sign a ticket, the officer gives u the ticket and u drive on ur merry way.
Inaccuracies on moving violations are not automatic dismissals in NYS, only parking tickets. Which is the reason meter maids went do the automatic VIN readers, no more mistakes.

Hopefully, your state has traffic school you can attend to avoid the points and DMV records reported to insurance. The cost of the ticket is the inexpensive part. Seven year increase on mandatory auto insurance is what is impressive.
I once got out of a ticket bc the officer forgot to check what offense it was for but I think that that is a little more significant than a ZIP code.
If you hired a lawyer to argue this you might get away w/ it bc judges tend to be more lenient when they see that you have spent money on representation.

I thought that was a little interesting.
Edit: Oh and I don't remember which state/county it was in.
Seriously...by your own story here, you've already beaten two out of three, so I'd quit while I was ahead. Pay the red-light ticket, don't argue with the umpire, take your walk to first base, and you won't strike out.
