Let's see, it's 1,800kg, it has the suspension from a Town Car, it has a large, inefficient and lazy V6 engine and a 3-body trunk (although it won't be used since it's not fast enough to outrun cops).
Kia doesn't really know what the Amanti is supposed to be and neither do I.
It's styled after Euro brands like Merc and Jag but the handling is not at all European - it has poorer suspension tuning than almost everything else (if not everything else) out there.
The interior is great but for the money - it should be. Don't forget that this car starts at around $28,500 (sure there are discounts but $28k for a Kia??) ... last time I checked that was a lot of money. Even w/ the $3000 cash back it's still $25k ... which, again, is a good hunk of change.
They call it a "luxurious premium sedan" and market the car as having "exhilarating performance" and "more of what you love at a price you want" ... whatever that means.
And why did Kia introduce the car in the US anyway? Kia is simply Hyundai's downmarket brand, but the Amanti is still (even after the introduction of the Azera) the Group's most expensive (by starting MSRP) US offering. I just don't get it.
I rented 1, well got stuck with it but it felt and drove like your typical older american car, very loose, it may have been through the renter abuse of 8000 miles but even a Corolla still feels solid with 20k on it with routine daily renter driving it, the KIA felt so disconnected with the road that I took it back for a Magnum wagon
