I don't know why Lexus discontinued the goodlooking SC.

Is that Goat of the Pontiac variety??

 

I voted for the SC, the design is a timeless classic. My defination of a modern day classic is a car you look twice at. Some of the classic designs of the 90's will never be seen again. Some of the cars with pop up headlights can not be made again because of new pedestrian crash rules. I also think the SC and the others mentioned are just clean designs and hard to improve on. Here is my short list of the top five japanese designs.

1. Acura NSX(1991-2001)
2.Mazda Rx-7(1993-1995)
3.Nissan 300zx(1990-1996)
4.Lexus SC(1992-2000)
5.Toyota Supra(1994-1998)


I also think the first LS will be a classic, because they got it so right the first time, kind of like some of the early Mercedes sedans.

The first gen LS400 is, and always will be a timeless classic. Even now, with my car being 16 years old, it not only STILL turns heads,, it also fits in with the look of todays modern cars. Like a step above. With this car,, they got it sooo right the first time, that many other car makers had to completely change their "thinking" om order to keep up and be competitive. my opinion is slightly biased b/c,, let's face it. If it wasn't for the fact of the overwhelming success of the LS here in the states,, none of the other models would even be here. The LS and ES started all of this, but the LS is the car that won the hearts of everyone!!!

I also would vote for the First gen SC. Car is still very attractive and turns heads in todays modern design. Worst decision that Lexus ever made was not find a way to continue to this timeless design instead of turning it into a short wheel base convertible

 

IMO...classic on sedan(Lexus LS400) and sport coupe(Honda NSX). Those two car gave other automakers of new definition on cars. SC is a good car too but compare to the NSX for overall handling/performance/ride quality...no question ask. Only one field the SC can over take the NSX was the price.

So my vote is 1 gen LS400

 

It gotta be LS. Without LS, there is no Lexus. Every car maker should have at least one car and one car name that has to continue forever, generation after generation. BMW has 5-series and 3-series, M3 and M5. Porsche has 911. Nissan has Skyline and GTR. Honda has Civic and Accord. Toyota has Crown and Corolla. Mazda has MX-5 and RX. Mitsubishi has Lancer Evolution. Subaru has WRX and STI. Mercedes-Benz has S-class and SL-class. Ferrari has its mid-engine V8 F-numeric series. Jaguar has XJ-series. I think LS is that car and that name for Lexus, so it has to be LS to become the first and only classic. If you have to ask for which particular generation of LS, I would say the first generation 1990 LS400, followed by 2008 LS600hL.

 

What are some of you people still not understanding? It's ignorant to say things like "1st gen ES300."

The 1st gen ES was the ES250. The second gen ES was the ES300. The ES, like every other car, has its generations distinguished by body style/chassis/platform changes, not engine designations. If that was the case, I don't know what BMW 3-Series generation we'd be on.

 

I still see the ES250 around here as a matter of fact I saw two of them in the last three days one in rough shape the other was good looking even a shine in the paint. I also see a good handful of the first LS400's around you just have to know the grill work and no LS badging in back just a "L"

 

Not sure if there is a thread already on this topic but I would like to get some of you guys opinions on which Lexus models you think will be considered a classic,a collectors item,or most sought after in maybe 15-20 years from now? My opinions include :
1990 LS400
1992 SC300/400
1998 RX300
Any LF-A
2001-2006 LS430
2008 LS600h

Honestly, I think MOST cars today are too mass produced to be worth much if anything as an investment long term. Some cars in certain color combo's may be, but it will depend on market demand to dictate prices.

Of course the LFA's are going to be worth as much as they are today, maybe more. Beyond that, only time will tell. One thing is for sure, the Early ES250's and 300's with 5 speeds, and the SC's of the same vintage with 5 speeds will be highly sought after. They are becoming fewer and fewer in decent OEM condition.

I see your point. But wasn't the mustangs and corvettes of yore also mass produced and still ended up classics? I believe the current generation of enthusiasts will determine "classic" status in 20 years as most will remember those models as among the best Lexus produced in its early years. I do agree with your inclusion of the rare 5speed models tho.

 

LFA. I can't see any of the other lexus models as collectibles.

If i had to pick another Lexus model, a first gen LS in mint condition might be worth something 50 years from now since it basically established the Lexus brand

 

I second the idea of the ES250, regardless of the trans type. I have only seen one on the road in the past 10 years.
