Default 157mpg, get aside prius -- wait....

German Loremo AG will introduce their ultra Efficient Car at the Motor Show 2006 (site) in Geneva next week.

The car start-up developed a light-weight passenger car with outstanding aerodynamics. The Loremo LS is powered by a 2 cylinder Turbo Diesel engine with 20 hp and 160km/h top speed. The amazing thing is that the Loremo only needs 1.5l per 100km. This is approx. 157MPG!
The Toyota Prius hybrid has only 55MPG (combined city and highway).
With one tank (20l) you could drive 1,300km.

Loremo AG plans to sell the Loremo LS for less than 11,000 Euros (~$13,000).
One reason for the low consumption is the low weight of 450kg. The company designed the Loremo focusing on safety and efficiency and got rid of unnecessary functions. The car is small but still provides space for 4.
The design of the car is very futuristic and has for instance no conventional doors.

Loremo AG also plans to offer the Loremo GS with a bit stronger engine (50 hp, 2.7l/100km) that reaches top speeds of 220km/h (for the German Autobahn).
More details on the Loremo site.
20hp, umm..... although the car only weighs 990, i wonder what the accel is like.

Looks like a great car as long as you don't try and race those old men and old ladies that power walk the malls. They'd out sprint that thing to the other side of the mall before the prune juice kicks in.

Thats a funky looking car.
I wouldn't mind driving it as a daily, would save a lot of money.

Max accel = 32 ft/sec squared. (over a cliff)

With "no conventional doors", you just have to wonder how you enter/exit. Maybe that's the ultimate fuel-saving feature. If you can't get into it, you won't be wasting fuel by driving it!

Fast enough loaded with people? It will be faster on the transporter on the way to the dealer than it will be under its own power. At least it will never come here unless we rewrite the emissions laws like the europeans have for diesels.

It does slightly more then 120 mph top speed, so I think it is fast enough to get on the US freeways.

157mpg only? Get aside, Loremo LS. Toyota is still the king.

This is the Ultimate Fuel Efficient Car from Daihatsu (owned by Toyota as you know). With a Cd of 0.168, the lowest of any car, it's rated at 72km/L, or around 169mpg.

is it the top speed that counts? dunno, if you have a slow *** car, good luck in LA traffic, you probably can't even merge into the freeway from onramps

Uphill or downhill? But like I said, you can either tune a diesel to have low particulate emissions or low NOx emissions. The europeans have allowed diesels to have the greater NOx emissions so they can retune and eliminate particulates but when you look at our emissions laws and combine them with the unavailability of low sulphur diesel here, not much chance, if there ever was, of this thing making it over here.

Not a problem on the 405.
Since this car is German made and road legal there I'm sure they tried it on the autobahn,
So US highways would be less of a problem since you guys drive slower.
