Drugs, illicit sex, and alcohol, at least since the mid-60's or so, while not indulged in by EVERY rocker, have ALWAYS been a part of rock music. I can give you a LONG list of musicians, even up to this present day, who have died early deaths from OD's, alcohol poisoning, or AIDS.

In fact, one of my favorite rock groups, AC / DC, lost its first lead singer, Bon Scott, from alcohol poisoning and possible heroin use.
