Well....I guess that makes me ancient. I grew up with 425 HP Boss, Mach 1, and Shelby Mustangs, SS396 Camaros, and Mercedes-Benz products that, quality-wise, were easily the best cars in the world. And....yes.....15" wheels were the state-of-the-art. The " in " look was considered Cragar mags.

Do I miss those cars? Yes and no. They were fun to ride in and drive but were a PITA to maintain. Carburators, breaker-point ignition systems, and non-clearcoat paint, especially, are three things I do NOT miss.

If you rememeber when the rear tire size was the only "important" one. And that it wasn't a 275/50, it was a Pro-Trac N50!!

They did not measure tire sizes in millimeters back then in the American market. Everything was in inches....and cubic inches for engine displacement. They also, to my memory, did not have a system for measuring tire sidewall height and profile ratio like they do today. ( 45, 55, 60, etc...) Tires were simply measured in wheel-width and tread width ( in inches ).

Well, there was some differentation if I recall correctly. The Pro-Trac N50 was wider than the M50. They also had N60 and M60 series. My interpretation was that the 50 was the sidewall figure. Was it actually a ratio as it is now? No idea. The N & M designation was the width. Again, no correlation to an actual measurement as far as I know.

Do any of you guys remember MindBlower speakers? A couple of my neighbors had them. They were amplified 6x9 speakers that you could hook to your 8-track. Music didn't have much bass in it back then but they sure made that Parliment, BarKays and Rick James sound damn good.

Those groups weren't even around yet. In high school we listened to stuff like CCR, Jimi Hendrix, Iron Butterfly, Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, etc.....
I was a CCR fan myself. I liked the Credence Clearwater Revival sound.
In-a Gadda-da-Vida by Iron Butterfly ( a classic drugee dope-em-up song ) was probably the biggest smash single hit....but I avoided drugs like the plague, and still do.

I'm so glad I didn't exist during those days, or at least didn't have to experience those periods of the 80s..

Weird measurements,
non-clear coat, heavy and horrible handling vehicles..
CRAPPY sound systems..

yuck

Some of the best and hardest rock ever was from 80's Heavy Metal groups like WASP, Twisted Sister, Quiet Riot, Judas Priest, Motley Crue, Scorpion, Van Halen, Megadeath, etc.....and of course the Kings of heavy rock, AC / DC.
IMO it sure beats this junk they call music today. Give me Van Halen's David Lee Roth shouting " Everybody Wants Some " , Judas Priest's Bob Holford shouting " Living After Midnight " or AC / DC's Brian Johnson screaming " Shoot to Thrill " while Schoolboy Angus Young struts the "Duckwalk" back and forth.
I don't know about you guys, but IMO, compared to this great classic stuff, today's so-called "rock" music is just a bunch of watered-down junk.

Anyway...we got a little off-topic. We were on car memories, and somehow we turned it into a referendum on rock groups.

I think it's just a generational thing.

I could appreciate the music if I sat and listened to it, studied it and resaerched it but I have no interest in doing so.

I'm particularly turned off to rock during the 60's and 70's due to the heavy drug use at the time. "Let's sit around get high and play some tunes man!!" - lame..Obviously these same patterns continue today, so my take on it is just biased to that generation.

LOL super off topic now..but if all that history hadn't happened we wouldn't be where we are now so I can't say I wish it didn't happen.
