Depends what you like... as usual the Bimmer leans more performance and the RX330 more soft quiet ride.

I'd look at a Cayenne S, an 06 Explorer, and the new Ranger Rover Sport also.

Get Acura MDX, for the price nothing even comes close.

Between these two? It would be a very hard decision for me personally...if I were into trucks. First for me is reliability. That means the Lexus hands down. I hear too many horror stories still about BMW products. Every so often you hear from people who got lucky and got a good one but it's a crap shoot.

On the other hand. The x5 is a way better looker and has that german teutonic look and feel that lexus hasn't achieved. Probably not trying because they are very successful without it. Anyway, that teutonic german thing is even more desirable with a truck type vehicle. Slap some wheels on it and it becomes even more teutonic.

In conclusion, I'd probably go with neither. The GX has the look and feel to compensate and it's a Lexus. If I had to choose, it would be the x5. I just don't like that RX.

There's a reason there aren't that many GX's on the road. They're fugly (too narrow!). Very nice ride though!

And Och - yeah the MDX is a good vehicle.

x5 3.0 & rx330 is too sluggish for my taste... x5 4.4 or gx470....tho the 4.4 for better drive & handling... 470 for more space.

That narrowness ( the GX is actually a more plush 4Runner) doesn't help the center of gravity much either...it is NOT a vehicle for tossing around corners.

I don't think I'd ever want to buy an American made BMW . . .

Well, the most unreliable BMW......the 7-series.....is NOT built at the Spartanburg, S.C. plant like the X5. It is built at the Dingolfing plant in Germany east of Munich.

I hardly consider the 7-series unrealiable , my brother owned one for 2 years now , no problems at all
