4.4 x5, My family has one and I LOVE this car. Its fast, handles like a car, and looks great. You will not be upset with your decision if you go with the x5. Currently we just hit 50k miles and no problems whatsoever besides a few computer issues that were resolved in a day at the dealership. Good luck with your choice.

this comparo is wack, both vehicles in diffent classes.
a better comparo is GX vs X5, the GX is not as sporty but outside that the better vehicle.
either one is great

that's my opinion.

The way i look at this is if you want sound, quality, and reliablity with less handling, looks, and performance go with RX330 or vice versa. Me personally i would never ever buy a bmw or mercedes leasing it for 2 to 3 yrs is a better choice, and then have a bunch of fun then give it back just opinion. I always buy all my cars so thats why i choose lexus u get the idea.

I always liked the X5, but its getting a redesign soon. So I would probably wiat a little longer if that is what your really want. Slightly sportier than the RX though. I like the RX for its luxury, smoothness, and cool features for a very great price.

I also like the MDX(and its definitely quicker than the RX, but not so sure about the X5 as I never had the chance to push that truck like I wanted to), but it looks to much like a tall minivan to me. Way to blocky and slabsided for my taste. ANd a rediculously bland interior.

Out of those 2, I would pick the RX just because the X5 will be updated soon.

Others I would look at are the M-class, FX, Touareg, XC90, Cayenne and a few others.

Oohh...difficult call. They are both great. I would have to err towards the RX because of the standard creature comforts. BMW screws you with expensive options etc.

Also, as was said before, the X5 will be replaced soon. And for some reason BMWs always look so much older to me after they are superseded.

The RX330 is a little sluggish from take-off though, at least I thought so.

I was wondering, will the RX get the Lexus 3.5 engine soon (and become an RX350)? I somehow doubt it though cuz that would take away the 'performance' selling point of the RX400h (and maybe even the fuel economy point too!)

yeah, my thoughts exactly. Unless they are going to update the hybrid as well, and use the the 3.5L. Maybe RX450h??? Just thinking out loud here.

Why am I the only one recommending the MDX??? The MDX is a much better SUV than both the X5 and RX330.

Because this is a Lexus board? Seriously though why do you say the MDX is a 'much better SUV'? I actually like it a lot too although I feel like the styling might need some updating now that it's been around several years.

He is quite fortunate. Too bad most other owners do not share his experience.

Quality-wise, the MDX and LX330 are about equal. The RX330, however, is noticeably plusher inside, and, in my opinion, more comfortable to drive....too bad the more expensive RX400H doesn't have the same plush wood interior the 330 does.

As an owner of an RX330 and having my cousin own a 04 MDX I'd have to say it is a close call. The fit and finish IMHO of the MDX is every bit as good and in some areas better than my RX330. The interior IMHO of the MDX feels more roomy, and the exterior style are about equal. The power of the MDX blows away the RX330 though. The two reasons why we went with the RX330 over the MDX was the HID headlights and power rear hatch door. The RX330 isn't really a quiet vahicle like your typical Lexus cars. We like our RX330, but I would say it is the least Lexus like car in the line up. Build quality is okay, fit and finish is okay, quality and feel of materials are also okay, but nothing special.

With maintenence out of the question I would choose the X5 over the RX330. factoring the reliability of the cars I'd choose the RX330. Given that this is probably the last time I will buy a Lexus SUV.
