Get the GS. In pride and prestige, Infinity ranks lower than a Honda.
It's responses like this that exemplify why comparing cars on an brand-dedicated enthusiast site is a terrible idea. Looking for objective opinions when asking on a site dedicated to one of the manufacturers is like looking for a virgin in the Hilton family. Drive them both and pick the one you like better. The only variable here that isn't subjective is resale, and both the GS and M *look* like they will have very good resale value.
The Q45 is a great car, there's no arguing about that. However it doesnt sell, and its resale value sucks. I can get a 2002 Q45 with 50-60k miles for 20K. Why is that? Simple - the previous gen Q45 sucked so much that it hurt infiniti's reputation for a long time to come.
Now lets take previous gen M45. Talk about suckage, the gar was in many ways worst than a Towncar. Don't you think it will hurt the current M like the old Q hurt the current Q?
Also take this into consideration - many previous Infiniti owners won't be buying another Infiniti due to poor resale value. If I bought a 50,000 sedan and three years later I can barely get 20,000 for it, I won't be buying another car from the company.
And don't get me wrong, I like Infiniti, I think they are making great cars now, and I test drove 2002 Q45, 2005 G35, and sat inside M45 before I bought the GS430. Loved all three cars, and almost bought the G35, but then I found a great deal on the GS.
In any case, as a temporary car I would much rather go with the GS. The GS has already proved it's resale value, and you know what to expect. Who knows, maybe the M will sell and hold value better than the GS, but that's very unlikely and yet to be seen.
You guys have a point on previous Infiniti resale, but keep in mind that their *current* resale values are some of the best in the industry. The G35 has been consistently in the top 3 for resale in it's class, same with the FX. The current M is selling well, so let's just wait and see before condemning it.
As for durability/reliablilty - there is no question Lexus has been the best in the industry for many years. But Infiniti is no slouch in that category either. I stand by the assertion that you should drive both and decide based on your priorities.
The GS 430 has the same engine and its a fine engine. Lets not forget, the M45 has the SAME engine as before as well. With a 5 speed auto. The GS has a new 6 speed. I don't think any GS 430 owner is screwd, its an incredible car.
With the ES 300, it was the same thing, they kept the same engine and upgraded to ES 330 after the first 2 years, to keep sales going.
BMW JUST upgraded its 545 to a 550 after 2 years, I dont' think 545 owners are screwed (325 to 360hp).
The Audi A6 has the SAME 4.2 V-8 from the previous version.
And NO ONE has an answer for the GS 450h.
The GS 430 is basically a sub 6 second car everytime. The GS 460 might knock a tenth or two off. Its not like its going to be a giant difference.
Mike
Both the 545 and the new A6 4.2 got 35 more hp when they came out I believe - even though they had the same displacement. I think the point is that Lexus should have done at least something with the 06 GS430 rather than just kick the trans up from a 5 speed to a 6 speed.
I still think it is the best looking car out there with the best interior however.

I don't agree nor disagree with you . I don't think its a major issue it didn't have a new engine (sales are better than ever) but it would have been NICE to see one at launch.
I mean, driving these cars, they all have tons of power (the V-8 cars). But I guess who can say no to 50 more hp ?
Funny, I called Enterprise, and they don't carry Infiniti's period.
Hertz has the G35 but thats it.
The M still has the better resale value. I see your trying to make a stab again at Infiniti as usual.
Its not a cheap stab. the TRUTH is not a cheap stab. This is an old fact, Enterprise uses Infiniti vehicles as rentals. I do have to say I was very surprised to find out the M35 is a rental too.

I wonder what % sales, out of curiosity?
Hard to say. Probably at least 1 Infinit per enterprise maybe.
