I imported it to Japan from Australia when I moved here in 2001...

Oh my, oh my.

This is going to sound harsh but this car isn't only distasteful, it also lacks any design creativity whatsoever in my opinion. How so? Well, look at the Lancia Thesis below, a car that has been on the market in Europe for ages. I can see where the Toyota design department got their inspiration from. I'm sorry, both the Toyota Verossa and the Lancia Thesis are ugly cars, but at least the Lancia has originality.

Its funny..

All the hate.. But what is it you hate more.. Someone that drives an ugly car. Or someone that can afford what ever he likes deciding on a second hand, well looked after ugly car, over another boring, overpriced Toyota (eh Lexus)?

Yeah, I did the whole show room thing, and felt like I was buying cheap plastic toy cars when I went for a test drive.. Boy since the Lexus brand was released here, it sure went down hill...

My wife made the silly mistake of saying. Why not just look at a Toyota dealership. And before I even hit the new show room, saw the Verossa.. I was sold...

Lets just say, after driving it, it is a car that I enjoy, and well, having an "L" on the grill means shyte to people who are not fanboy *******!

Sorry.. Simply didn't know how to water that down for you!

both cars take influence from older european cars.

there is an reason Toyota has >40% of share of Japanese car market - they cater to different local tastes, thats why you have cars that i personally would never buy. But then again, I am not in Japan, am I? This car is not being exported because it is built for japanese tastes...

Good point. I agree with you.

Still doesn't change my personal opinion about it. I am sure it drives nicely and is comfortable but from a design point of view it looks to close to the Lancia Thesis. There are other JDM Toyotas which look really beautiful in my opinion such as the Crown Majesta or the Century but sadly Toyota keeps the best things in Japan...

point is, this car is not built for you and me :-).

But lets digress, previous Verossa which looks a lot like current one, was released in 2001, while Thesis was released in 2002... Both designs are based on italian cars from 40's, and Verossa actually came out earlier than Thesis (which has been an flop in europe).

I always wonder whatever happened to Toyota Chaser, X100 series, and they were my favorite Toyota along with Toyota Mark II.

They ruined it.
