The 6.3-litre version of Mercedes’new S-Class is production ready, as this official image leaked from inside Mercedes shows.

Autocar.co.uk revealed official pictures of the standard S-Class last month, but the new car’s lines appear much more successful in the high-performance AMG incarnation. The extended arches appear muscular rather than bloated with the addition of a deep front air dam, sill extensions and fat 19-inch five-spoke alloy wheels. Though we have yet to see a rear view, expect the deeper rear bumper to feature AMG’s trademark quartet of tailpipes.

The sportiest S-class uses a normally-aspirated, high-revving V8 in place of the current car’s supercharged unit, with capacity boosted from 5.4 to 6.3 litres to compensate. It powers the rear wheels through Mercedes’ 7G-Tronic seven-speed gearbox. Codenamed M156 E63, the V8’s power output is as yet unconfirmed, but the engine will come in a variety of tunes depending on application. Like the existing unit it will find its way into a variety of cars, including the AMG version of the new M-Class 4x4. As for the S-Class, expect an improvement over the current S55 AMG’s 500bhp.

The AMG isn’t the only bit of new S-class information to trickle out of Stuttgart. We have also uncovered images showing the complex-looking Command console – Mercedes’ answer to BMW’s iDrive – along with the new night vision system, Distronic cruise control and twin sunroofs. Check out our image gallery to see them all.

I think it looks great.

I wouldn't buy the S class w/out the AMG bodywork. It's nearly an entirely different car.

It could be lowered, wearing the most expensive AMG aero kit, and have a twin turbo V12 and I still wouldn't be interested.

The 7 series copy interior speaks volumes for the car. The fact that Mercedes duplicated BMW design so extensively shows they didn't want this car to be much, just an evolutionary Mercedes sedan. If they don't have faith in their own ideas, why should the buyer?

Mercedes has watered down their brand image to where it no longer has an edge over Lexus in the prestige department. Mercedes needs to drop all of their sub $40,000 products and make their remaining models truly special. While they are at it, why not bring back quality to the brand again? Forget the teachings of Chrysler and their mastery of cheap plastics.

This new S class, even in AMG form, just further opens the window of oportunity for Lexus to drive right through.

Looks much better than the stock
But that stupid fender arch Are they doing that so the crazy aftermarket people can stick in 26s in there?

At first glance, I thought it was a CLS

I like it. I can nitpick a few things but taken as a whole package, the new S is just meaner looking than the previous version (which I also liked). Some may like the direction Mercedes is going and some may not.

Here's Edmunds latest report on the S63 AMG. The fender flares are barely noticeable in these new spy shots for some unknown reason.
http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...ticleId=106365

With an output of around 500hp, the new 6.3L is looking to be the most powerful naturally-aspirated V8 on the market for sure, with torque most likely higher than the BMW's 5.0L V10 due to a much higher displacement. Big to MB/AMG for stopping the reliance on superchargers and turbos for boosting power.

Also in the report is this funny pic of an AMG's version of the R-Class being towed by an ML65 AMG.
