Any Porsche 944 owners?
Anyone own a 944 NA or turbo? My good friend is on his second, this was the first........

and now he has this one

Both were '83s but the second white one is a turbo. He has now moved on to an SC and is going to sell the white 944. Anyone else own a 944?

Are you sure? I know for a fact his car is a '83 and it even has the factory turbo badge on the back

Anything non-stock on your 944?
My car is stock with only 46,000 miles.

It's all Porsche and great section on 944's.
I knew someone who slapped a turbo badge on an '84 but it didn't make it any faster.

I've had 7 of them
http://www.lextech.org/images/pics/ there are a few pics of my current one. I had a 951 turbo last year. This year I've decided to go N/A to cut down on expenses since I have 5 cars to maintain.

Wow OLT 7? Nice cars. That last turbo looks very clean. The yellow one my friend had, had 250 pound stage 3 srpings from westmeister or somthing like that, boxter rims, momo seats/harnesses and it was totaly gutted, some other stuff too ...... it used to be dark blue but then he had to paint it yellow. the pix i showed was one the frist. After it was all done, it was a VERY clean car. Too bad its gone
Plum, he didnt put the badge on the car, it came like that from the dealer floor
Ill have to check out that site, I wonder if there are any other '83 turbo onwers there...........

Since the turbo didn't come out until '85.5 and the stock N/A front end won't support enough airflow for an intercooler... fill me in on how his is a '83 turbo. I'm curious.
The transaxle in non turbo 944's is not oil cooled, nor is it "beefy" enough to handle boost. the computer is not the only thing to change either if it was added, the brakes, all pipes, rear end, wire harness, and the already mentioned stock frnot end which has supports in it to block the addition of an intercooler make me want to ask how he has an '83 turbo. These aren't things you can get by with NOT changing. The car will simply twist itself to pieces without all of it in place, it is only strong enough for N/A.

I have considered getting a 944 several times. I get scared off if I don't get a full maintenance history. I'm starting to think it doesn't matter that much. More important to find a mechanic who is an expert on the car and take your chances. My neighbor had one. He got rid of it about 6 months ago. I offered to buy but he said, "you don't want this car." He gave me a full run down of what it's like to own a 944...or any Porsche with some years on it.
Are there no hardcore 944 fans out there? It is a factory turbo setup that you could have gotten from porsche in 1983. It has low comp. pistons and steel liners in the SOHC 8 valve motor. Those are some clues, im just curious if anyone out there knows what im talkin about before i give away the answare
