Default Lexus 'Zero Accidents' Goal...

According to: http://www.automobear.com/index_home_content.html

While GM builds a new rollover lab seeking to understand five different types of rollover accidents, Lexus has endured some pointed jabs in the media over the nannying nature of its VDIM Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management system, as installed standard in the GS430 sedan (as well as the RX400h and Toyota Highlander Hybrid SUVs). Lexus, Automotive News noted recently, has instituted a zero accidents vision in Japan, talking openly about eliminating traffic deaths. One might imagine the reaction to such a promise here in the U.S, not to mention that Automotive News suggested dealer reticence toward VDIM, largely because the system cannot be switched off for more vivid demonstrations.
Interesting philosophy...sounds a bit like Minority Report.

Want zero accidents? The DRIVER is the weakest link! The car can react to a driver's moves and anticipate based on conditions, but we're a long way from a car stopping a driver from running a red light for example!

LOL - you'll be retired before they get to zero accidents. Besides, remember the insurance companies DON'T WANT THIS because they then become irrelevant too.

There might always be theft or "electrical" fire.

VDIM=genius for 99% of Lexus owners.
VDIM=bad news for the 1% of potential people going to the track or who drive like Montayo on public roads.

And I hate to say it but its getting tiring saying the GS is not as sporty but you know what, if you CLAIM to need it, get aMANUAL!!!. Otherwise, we are all dealing with slushboxes and quite frankly, its a moot point. If you really want the FULL 10/10ths, get a S4 V-8 or a 545 V-8, both with manuals.

So here I type what JIM PRESS, Executive VP, Toyota Motor Sales says in March Automobile
Question
Is the 06 GS 430 leading Lexus in the new direction?

Answer
Phase one of LExus was to redefine the luxury car segment. We have maximized customer satisfaction and reninvented the whole dealership experience. We offered an unparalleled level of quality and comfort for a very resonable price. Now we can take Lexus to the next level. Basically, our philosophy is to "zero-nize" and "Maxim-mize" performance. We'll zero-nize all the negatives of the automobile-accidents, emissions, high fuel consumption. We'll "maxi-mize" performance, the thrill of driving and our traditional comfort and value. Our cars have always performed to a high degree, but the visceral, emotioanal feedback hasn't been apparent. Also, the styling hasn't had the emotional satisfaction our customers want. So, each sedan is going to get these emotional componants. First the GS, then the IS and the LS.
Question
Is there room for an ultra-luxury car from Lexus?

Answer
There 's a lot of discussion about it. Personally, I don't feel that the company's ego needs to be exercised by offering a car that just has a lot of content and cost without being the LEXUS of the category. To me, it's better to make a statement with PHILOSOPHY not just hardware. I'd rather see the ultimate hybrid automobile- the best of all worlds "zero-nize" and "maxi-mize".

I think it's mean " Zero Emission" while miximize the power with less emission. That's why almost all of the Toyota vehicles certified as the " ULEV" or better, but they have to suffer the lost of HP to meet the ULEV spec.

For example: the GS400 with E-shift and the GS430 without E-shift with bigger engine, but the GS430 has the same HP as the GS400,but it's certified as the ULEV( Ultra Low Emiision Vehicle).

I agree with Bit that most of the accident are coming from the driver and the best technologies on earth will not help if the driver don't know how to drive in the first place.
