Default car for my sister

Well she is driving my cobra back home in kentucky, and someone runs a stopsign. Hopefully it is totaled. I was strictly worried about her safety, and not the poostang. So I have been emailing my mom some car ideas, and this and that...cars from the cl classifieds. I really like a 1998-up sc for her..or something else..any ideas. there is a nice ls for sale in the forums. But the gentleman is out of the country right now...any ideas you guys could give. she is 17 btw. Nothing too expensive what so ever...my mom loved the mustang, but I am glad its gone...well i hope so.

I don't think a 17 year old needs a T'd SC.

I like the tC suggestion. You might also look for a used G35 sedan if she's not stuck on a coupe; you could probably pick up a 2003 for around 24 grand. The Camry SE w/ Special Edition package (I think it's only available in southeast - adds BBS wheels and factory kit) is a good value as well and I think it looks great; you'd pay 23-25 for the 4-cyl model. The new Sonata is nice - you could pick up a V6 GLS model for around 20-22 grand. Maybe a new Altima 3.5 SE; you might be able to convince a dealership to get you the keys for under 25. The Mazda3 or Mazda6 may also be worth a look. Maybe take a look at the WRX. And it pains me to even suggest it - but you could also look at the new Jetta (just typing that obliges me to say: good job with the new Corolla there, VW).

Glad to hear your sister walked from the accident and good luck with your search.

M.

If you want something with a warranty and don't want to spend too much, go lease her a durango like my sister did for 104 a month.

Or if you want to get her something nice and dependable, get like a 98 ES300, I picked one up for a work car at the auction last week for 3800.

I would stay away from rwd cars for her. She is only 17 and they can be very dangerous in poor weather. I would not really get anything that expensive like a g35, IS300,3 series, SC, etc. A 17 year old does not need cars like that and she may expect all her cars to be like those expensive vehicles which may put her in debt or feel she is entitled to nice expensive cars and things. A used SC may not be too expensive to purchase but it will be expensive to maintain or fix if something needs to be replaced, there is very little room in the back seat, it gets pretty poor gas mileage especially considering gas prices today, and rwd will become a problem in the winter. SInce she is 17 she will probrable be getting into small accidents or getting little dings and dents since she is not that experienced so there is no need for something that is that nice or expensive.

I would say a Tc coupe, corolla, used solara, used Accord, used prelude, civic, integra, rsx, mazda 6, mazda 3, for safe reliable fairly inexpensive sporty cars that get good gas mileage. I don't think she needs an SUV because they are pretty dangerous unless you know how to drive them, cost alot to insure, and they get very poor gas mileage. Volkswagens are pretty expensive and not too reliable and used ones can turn out to be lemons. I would definitely stay away from used Mustangs and Camaros as they are very dangerous in the rain/snow, poorly built, unreliable, loose their value quickly, cost alot to insure, and are often vandalized. They do not make good first cars.

TC Coupe = new

SC300 = used

Scion tC is better for a 17 year old girl. Mazda 3 or 6 are good choices too IMO.

$104 a month? Thats really low!

I don't even think you can lease a Swift for $104usd in Canada.
