do what i did and get an LS

im 16 and i learned to drive ('round 12 or so) in my dads old '88 Camry LE. best thing to do i think (and i speak from experience) is to get something old and which is cheap to et body parts for. if youve been driving less than 3 years you WILL hit stufff or get scratches and scrapes no matter how good you (think you) are. though i love the G35 and the IS, something 2000 or older is probably a better choice. other choice is a camry or corolla( both new ).

if you want something newer and something she (may) like more look at an off-lease miata or just go buy the TC

good luck and il juss sit tight in my LS

Hey fireball, i say she should get an RSX type S. They are very dependable, easy to drive and holds their value. I think youu cant go wrong with an Acura. If she is cute, she dont need a car, ill be her driver. J/K.

Count me in with the suggestions for a new Scion. It will kill several birds with one stone. Scions are inexpensive, youth-oriented, have Toyota reliability, and because of the way they are sold with no-dicker prices like Saturns, will give your sister experience in a new car sale without all of the haggling and pressure. If she likes add-on accessories, Scion has a whole line of them through the dealerships with a Toyota / Scion warranty.
This way your sister, car-sales-wise, can learn to walk before she runs. After a relatively simple buying process like a Scion, next time maybe she can try something a little more involved. However, if she is not yet 18 when she goes shopping, she may not be legally able to sign a contract or get a loan (depends on state law).....Mom or Dad ( or someone else old enough ) may have to co-sign it for her the first time.

Quote: $104 a month? Thats really low!

I don't even think you can lease a Swift for $104usd in Canada.

Yea for some reason American car companies believe they have to come out with 50 ugly and cheaply made new models a year and produce them by the millions in order to make money.

Here in Michigan the local car dealers couldn't give away Pacificas and the new Durangos even though they had billions of them. My dads good friend solved the problem, he went to a local dealer and told them he would send them thousands of customers if they got every discount possible. So now every Chaldean in Michigan has a brand new Durango, Dakota or Pacifica sitting in their driveway at around a 100 a month, 85 for the Dakota (or whatever that new dodge pickup is called). It was funny because this guy my school had one just like my sisters but is paying around triple, he tried to justify by saying he is going to buy it at the end of the lease. I could never understand why people throw away money. A combination of the American auto industries stupidity and hastiness got us a great deal.

My sisters Durango is actually pretty nice, aside from the fact that it's built, drives and looks like a domestic car.

Quote: I would stay away from rwd cars for her. She is only 17 and they can be very dangerous in poor weather. I would not really get anything that expensive like a g35, IS300,3 series, SC, etc. A 17 year old does not need cars like that and she may expect all her cars to be like those expensive vehicles which may put her in debt or feel she is entitled to nice expensive cars and things. A used SC may not be too expensive to purchase but it will be expensive to maintain or fix if something needs to be replaced, there is very little room in the back seat, it gets pretty poor gas mileage especially considering gas prices today, and rwd will become a problem in the winter. SInce she is 17 she will probrable be getting into small accidents or getting little dings and dents since she is not that experienced so there is no need for something that is that nice or expensive.

I would say a Tc coupe, corolla, used solara, used Accord, used prelude, civic, integra, rsx, mazda 6, mazda 3, for safe reliable fairly inexpensive sporty cars that get good gas mileage. I don't think she needs an SUV because they are pretty dangerous unless you know how to drive them, cost alot to insure, and they get very poor gas mileage. Volkswagens are pretty expensive and not too reliable and used ones can turn out to be lemons. I would definitely stay away from used Mustangs and Camaros as they are very dangerous in the rain/snow, poorly built, unreliable, loose their value quickly, cost alot to insure, and are often vandalized. They do not make good first cars.

Im puzzled how you claim the sc is to expensive then you go ahead and suggest cars taht are anywhere from 2 to 3 times more expensive to obtain. Maintenance is affordable if you know where to buy parts.

And have the maintenance done by you or a friend.

And frankly her working on her car (i dont want to hear steorotypes about how she is a girl or a non car enthusiast everyone should work on their car better appreciation for them would be there if this was the case!)

Now only will she be able to own a nice vehicle, it allow her to do so with a sense of respect and withouth a sense of her being entitled to nice things just because. In fact I think itd give her a sense of responsibility and pride and very useful knowledge if she worked on her car. Although shed need someone like her brother to teach her at first sounds like a good bonding experience to me. And the SC300 tend to be very reliable machines on their own right.

RWD factor, good winter tires in the winter, good summer tires or all weather tires in summer time. The SC300 with its traction control can be rather forgiveable and even in those rare tail happy swings I think this car has behaved in a very predictable manner. Besides all the better reason for her to invest in some driving courses while at it!

I don't quite understand some of the suggestions here. , not you udel. I agree with all of the cars you posted up: cheap, reliable, economic on many terms like insurance, good gas mileage.
For a female at a young age, why would a turbo, fast coupe, or even an expensive car be feasible?
I had 4 choices when I went car shopping for my sister: corolla, civic, camry , and accord. She picked the civic and I couldn't be happier.
