Bike ?
here's how i learned how to ride:
first i bought a honda elite 80, a scooter with a max speed of 40mph! i got lucky, cuz it was only $240 dollars since it had no title. i rode that around at nite for like 4 months to get the hang of riding. then, i bought my first bike, an 87 kawasaki ninja 600R, which only cost $1500 since it was old. that bike was plenty for me, since it weighed approx 450lbs. but i managed, and it was great. i finally sold it after a year for $1000, then bought my gs4, and now i finally bought a 93 suzuki katana 750 for $2100, which is as big as it gets for me, since i'm only 5'6"....oh yeah, one more thing....old bikes have CHEAP insurance rates like you wouldnt believe!!! i pay $100 a year with progressive insurance!
here's the current loves of my life hahaah!!

Ok, so how do you get in this?
I picked up the study guide from the DMV. Here are the steps that I think I need to take (correct me if I'm wrong):
- Take a written test for a permit.
- Take a course (just like an automobile driver's course)
- Take the road test
When does the MSF class come in to play? I would like to take that as well and be as educated as I can before I ride on the road.
I've ridden in the past before, but I wouldn't really consider it riding.....it was a buddy's Honda F3 or was it an F4 (not fuel injected).
I didn't do anything crazy, I just got used to the gears and rode mainly at night with little or no traffic. But I stopped because I didn't have my license.

well, i've checked with both state of Washington and Florida
if you have take the Safety course and PASS it, you go down to DOL and get your M put on your license, no other tests needed
i dont know about Cali, maybe it's a whole different country

IMHO I would get a dirtbike first maybe a 125cc 4-stroke just to get used to letting the clutch out and get your balance on 2 wheels. You will fall and its better to fall in the dirt with full gear on (helmet, chest protector, boots, knee pads, elbowpads etc.) than to wipe in the street. Besides ridin dirt is fun as hell.
After you get used to ridin dirt go take the course and if you pass you get your license on the spot. Also as mentioned before really helps with the insurance.
