Default Cheap car forums vs. upscale car forums.

I've been paying attention to this for a long time, cars that are usually initially cheaper to buy, their owners seems to be a lot more less-educated and very closed minded, than say a Lexus forum. .

examples:
Volvo owners: most of them are closed minded idiots that will hate on something that you have to post, no matter what, either naked women, your car that puts down 400whp or just in random thing, but if you post from Sweden/Norway/Finland, they'll think your car is nice, and they hate VIP styling

VWVortex: Most user in car lounge are retarded, they love to prove themselves stupid, but other wise some are pretty cool cats.

BMW forums: some are pretty retarded with agnorant and cocky BMW drivers, some have cool cats that I like to learn things from.

ClubSi: some are really cool, I've met a few in person and they appreciate all things, but some have IQ of a rock.

to be honest, this board is the mos civilized and finest message board I've come across so far, I've yet to see so many members who are so open minded.

post your experiences with other forums.

I totally agree. It's so nice to engage in intelligent conversation without every other post being:

"Look I totally found a way to make a ***** out of symbols and like 2 letters: 3==> ~~~ LoLz!"

Thumbs up

I've had an exceptionally positive experience at SubaruForester.com I guess that qualifys as a cheap car forum...

Of course, it helps that it's model-specific. The demographic is different than CL, the members seem to be older on average. There is much greater international representation as well.

I've gotten in trouble less over there than I have here.

THere are also different types of up-scale forums. CL compared to Lextacy is like that pic with the Daewoo having Lexus badges

what i love about this site is that when you post something up

you get a response pretty quick

some of those other sites ...it could be a day or week to get a response

and even then its not as informative as CL

I second that, responses are pretty quick.. but posts on vwvortex are insane, if you start a thread on the main page, it can be on the second page within the hour

Notoriously the "cheaper" cars have some of the more "younger" drivers who tend to sometimes act more "immature" than other forums. I believe that is one MAJOR reason you don't have that here being that the average Lexus isn't in the High school/Early college age.

Although that will change very soon with the 2nd gen GS becoming all too affordable and the 1st gen SC dipping into scarce 5K and below figures. I just hope the trend doesn't transfer to here.

That's because the very fact that they are Forester (and Outback, I presume) owners, means that, like Lexus owners, they were smart enough to have bought excellent vehicles. I've said it before and will say it again....Subaru does the best AWD in the buisness in the under-$30,000 range. If my own money were not tied up in a Lexus product that is where it would be....in a Subaru.

Well, blame the forum's moderators and the Administrator for that. Apparantly they aren't doing their jobs closing the threads and tossing those nitwits off the forum.

MBworld.org (I tried participating in the W220/S class) :
I got pretty tired of the bickering and name calling when someone posts and before getting an intelligent response, I read : "Don't you mean your momma's Benz, your daddy's Benz.........blah blah blah.
There's no censorship or courtesy there, just straight out name calling and cursing if you feel like it.
Moderators don't step in and do crowd control, unlike here with Dave, Rominl, sick, neo, lxo, captain bone (sorry if I leave more mods out ..........
There's also alot more scams and people getting ripped off in there in the classifieds section.
Some people are nice and some are just arrogant and cocky

This is why CL is still the best, more civility, friendly and more importantly the respect for each other

Erm, I used to be at some forums for car magazines and stuff, they were alright when they had a more mature audience but it turned all pear shaped when the younger generation came in.. some kids really need to have their mouths washed... profanity that I hear on these boards and just the fact they were 16y.o. punks thinking that they're mature made me leave that forum.

ALSC - Great forum. Love it just like CL Very informative, and mature (most of the time), meet ups for Soarer owners, and I've made quite a few good mates from there.

JDM Style Tuning - Another great forum, lots of humor, but very well moderated (no slagging on anyone etc.)

Team GODspeed - My club! Very well moderated too, and a good representation of the club Made good friends here too.

haha, well, I guess my defintion of "cheap" isn't like a brand new Forester, heck, I can't even afford a brand new Forester. But more of like $5k Integra/Civic or $800 Volvo 240s.

I don't know if its the media or what, but a lot of younger crowds LOVE to create a scene, I've been going to the illegals before I got my license at 16, I remember back then, everybody was so chilled and had fun while racing, no one ever try to start an argument. We chat and race, no matter what you were driving or how old were you. Now days, I don't even bother to go to the illegals, full of punks trying to stir up stuff with lies.

A little bit of maturity and common sense can do great things.

Don't worry if you can't afford a brand-new Forester. ( I was 23 before I got my first brand-new car ). Anyhow, the Forester is an excellent vehicle, with one of the best AWD systems on the market. Good used ones are available in your price range....even if they have 100,000 miles on them. No vehicle is perfect, though, and with a used Forester, look for two possible flaws, First, some rear-wheel drumming noise is normal because of the open rear end, especially with worn tires, but if it gets loud or gets louder while turning, it could be weak rear wheel bearings.
Second, look for ANY signs of oil and anti-freeze leaks...or mixing together in the engine block and cylinders. This will be most apparant by a hot temperature gauge and steam out of the exhaust pipe. In the past, some of the Subaru 2.5L engines.......standard on the Forester....had weak head gaskets that need to be replaced to avoid engine damage. And...as with any vehicle with a timing belt.....make sure that has been replaced if the car has more than about 60,000 miles or is more than 6-7 years old......time as well as mileage can cause belts to fail.
