Default Mitsu R.I.P?

Two more marketing execs have left Mitsubishi. Their sales were down some 40% -- and last year was not a particualr stellar April either. The new Eclipse, a sign of hope, has gotten its marketing budget slashed to $25 million. Are these guys going away? And if so, when?

We have had several threads (and much discussion) on this subject....what will be the next auto company to leave the U.S. market. Check the CL archives and search functions and you will find them.

Opinions here at CL differ on the subject, but the main consensus seems to be that the next automaker to leave the U.S. will be either Mitsubishi or Isuzu.......with Mercury as a distant third and Suzuki an even more distant fourth.
I personally think that Isuzu is on the shakiest ground right now. It is down to just one product here in the U.S. market.......the Ascender, a rebadged GM/Chevy Trailblazer that is not even an Isuzu product to start with. Efforts are being made to expand its lineup with another GM-derived product, a rebadged Colorado/Canyon pickup.

Mitsubishi is on some shaky ground, sales-wise, but it still offers a pretty wide lineup of cars and SUV's, with plans to introduce a Dodge-derived pickup soon.
Here's a litle info on it:

Mitsubishi may go away from the car market, but the Japanese Gov't is not going to let it go bankrupt. Its the same thing that has happened with Chrysler in the past.

Imagine that though. DSM has pretty ugly looking cars as of late. Nissan vehicles as of late aren't too pleasing to the eye either. But they do need someone revolutionary like Ghosn to lead the pack.

ROFLMAO you guys actually think Mitsubishi would go bankrupt...

that company is freakin HUGE!!! their automobile corporation: mitsubishi motors may be having trouble... but the real company is HUGE... think about how much other stuff that they make that they sell and make a lot of money from... namely big ships, big mover equipment, hell even home electronics, etc...

they arent going anywhere

Yup, Mitsu outside the EVO offers NOTHING for consumers besides some HIDEIOUS styling. The new Eclipse WON't help and is STILL FWD with MORE power

Their products are not better than Nissan, Honda, Toyota nor better looking or more powerful. The EVO IX will be released soon but its such a small seller.

Well, Henry....they HAD Finbarr O'Neil, the guy that worked miracles at Hyundai before he moved on to Mitsubishi. Unfortunately, he was not able to work the same miracles there that he did at Hyundai (and indirectly at Kia). Why? I don't know all the reasons, but my educated guess is Mitsubishi's more corrupt corporate structure......a number of its higher-ranking corporate managers are either in prison or under some kind of ethics investigation. Anyway, O'Neil decided that he had enough of Mitsubisbi and resigned. I wish he had stayed.....Mitsubishi needs more people like him.
