I'm sure it would lose to an SLR, espcially around a track. Neither are ideal sports cars per se but the SLR McLaren is built more for the task. I do not however believe the SLR's worth makes up the price differential between the two. Plus, the AMGs are more luxury focused.

EDIT: Treynor's a ************ nutcase with his cars, damn!

It's weird, it's like a family website but under his page it's basically all about his cars. Here's direct to his page.

Look at the biographical portion of his site ...

He's a "Site Reliability Czar, Google"

In other words:

SL65 courtesy of overvalued IPO.

I love the SL65 and all, but to be perfectly honest, I could drop 30k total on a modified 2003 Mustang Cobra and have it running mid 11's.

Sweet car, but...

According to the latest C&D article:
"What you don't get with the SL65, oddly enough, is a time that is faster to 60 mph than the SL600's, a car that costs a mere $130,820. The SL600 does the deed in 3.6 seconds, the $182,720 SL65's best time was 3.8 seconds. Please don't call urging that we take competence tests. The "problem," as we've said, with the SL65 is that it doesn't have adequate traction to handle the horsepower hysteria. The rear tires have the same width as the SL600's, despite the AMG car's additional 111 horses and 148 pound-feet.

All that oomph makes it nearly impossible to launch the SL65 hard without excessive wheelspin."

Looks like the SL600 is still a better package despite the lack of an AMG badge & price.

after 60mph that's where the sl65 runs though i agree that for the price difference the sl65 is definitely a lot more money for a little more
