WASHINGTON - Bowing to pressure from federal safety regulators, DaimlerChrysler AG said Friday it is recalling 600,000 Dodge Durango SUVs and Dakota pickup trucks because of a defect that can cause their wheels to fall off.

It's more than just quality control. This shows, yet again, that American companies are more concerned with saving a buck than properly engineering a car.
It's pretty scary to know that someone can be travelling 75 - 80MPH next to you on a highway when their upperball joint fails causing the suspension to bottom out.
Imagine if that truck was in front of you on the left lane when that happens? I would imagine him losing control and slamming into anything that's near it.
The last place I want to be is next to 4 - 5k pound vehicle going 75 - 80MPH that's about to come flying into your lane.
"While a recall of 600,000 vehicles is substantial, it's not the largest in the industry this year. In March, General Motors Corp. announced it was recalling nearly 4 million trucks because their tailgates could fall off."
LOL. Wow. 4 million possible tailgates littering our highways. Why is GM still even LEGAL?
Anyway, 600,000 cars in the recall at $750 to $1,200 a pop is a pocket hit of $450 MILLION (yes, 6 zeros) to $720 million.
OUCH. Think that will put them under once and for all?
