Default The Corvette Plant has been shut down.

The Corvette Plant has been shut down.

No C6 Corvettes are being made at this time.

Existing Museum deliveries are already being cancelled and re-scheduled.

There is what they believe to be a problem with the 6-speed manual transmissions. It's my understanding from speaking with the NCM that a new truckload of transmissions are on the way to Bowling Green, KY - hopefully by Friday afternoon.

This appears to be a short term problem and I will keep you informed with the latest info on this issue.

Of course with the entire line down...yes it effects the production of the automatics too, no Corvettes are being produced at this time.

How does this affect existing 6-speeds already delivered...good question!

Rumor has it that it will pop out of gear while driving

When was the last time a car touted as a "standard bearer" and a "legend" had to have its production line shut down???

How embarrassing for America.

American car manufacturers really need to pull their act together.

Wel the Honda/Acura tranny failure is ridiculous.
Nissan is having tranny issues as well. Even the Long Term 350Z with Road and Track needed a new tranny, lol
The LS 430 just had a tranny recall

Tranny companies are learning a lot. A lot more power, speeds, and computer input.

Seems the GM built trannies in the BMWs are some of the strongest. As the Toyota 5 speed auto.

Actually, not to start a war, but my cousin had a focus that he claimed used to pop out of gear and stall on him...in rush hour on the freeway. I know the Focus is not Corvette, but still, not all Fords stay in gear.

You mean the Toyota 4 speed auto. The 5 speed auto is not a tough trans - at least according to a good friend of mine that is known for building fast Supras and SCs.

Well I don't know about super high horespower Supras and other 2JZ applications but I can vouch for putting ~500 crank HP through it for the past 2 years without incident. I'm very happy with how tough it has been.

YMMV

Edit: To keep this on topic: I'm really bummed that GM is having this problem. I really like the Vette and want to see it, and the Z06 follow-on, succeed.

Yeah, I can try to put 500+hp on my A340E transmission (same as supra 4sp auto) and it will probably blow on me pretty soon...

...It's been documented that stock supra auto transmission can only handle around 400ish whp which is a lil shy of the 500hp crank mark....

dont want to jinx myself here, but my 4 speed ATX mated to the 2VZ-fe motor i have is doing great after at least 100K on the fluid that was in it. it came out the same color as charcoal+water.

i would call it nearly bullet proof.

You're right Sick,

The 04 LS430's are being recalled for their trannys. Only certain ones determined by their last 8 numbers of the VIN are being recalled.
Of course, Lexus is resolving this issue pretty quickly.

The manuals are ZF boxes, and ZF doesn't make the most durable tranny.

Hopefully they did get better and are good now. The GM built auto tranny in my E36 BMW was replaced once under warranty and again as a goodwill. That was 3 trannies total in that car and it had less than 75K miles on it. I wasn't the only one with tranny failure either.
