I live in a small town so you see the same people often and people know eachother. I see this guy in a red delsol all the time. Spoke to him once.
Took an LS-VTEC and dropped it in the trunk of his del sol. Took alot of modifications to get his del sol to be a midengine rear wheel drive vehicle. Imagine all the work that would go into a project like that! the LS-VTEC alone is quite a piece of work. then you've got your motor mounts, he's still got his radiator in the front so a lot of work went into that one i bet. Then he's got the transaxle to worry about.
To top it all off... LS-VTEC turbo intercooled. Looks completely stock too!... other than the scoop for his turbo on his trunk lol. great track car i bet.

Did he actually showed you his mid engine conversion or did he just said he did it? I know there's a del sol in japan that has a mid engine set up also, but I've never heard of one here. If his radiator is in the front, how does the coolant get to his engine? Very lost here.
thats soo awesome, my brother has a del sol and i think it would be real sweet if he did that, but i know it takes more money than he'll ever have... i think that is soo awesome though, i like the car.
That's crazy. It's Honda's answer to the MR2 Never heard of a project like that except for Lingenfelter's (I think) dual engines in a FWD caddy where they added another V8 to the rear wheels. Oh, and what small town are you from?
Top Fuel did that to a Del Sol about 3 years ago. The article in Super Street explained almost step by step as to what the crazy people at top fuel did. and on top of all of that, it was like 500 turbo charged.
i saw him at the cheveron at the top of Eley hill on hwy 410. he had his trunk up...while he was checking the oil dipstick. I was like wth. so i went over there and checked it out. It was amazing, i've never seen anything like that done before.
Radiator- i'm not sure how he gets teh coolant around, maybe increased pressure in the tubing makes it run around and around? Maybe he's got some kinda pump that runs it through? not sure.
If i see him again, ill stop him and ask him and take some pics. I've met him once but i see him driving around Sumner and Bonney Lake area once every one or two months.

The answer might be a little late....both the Celica and the MR2 won't be around much longer.
There have been several dual-engine cars built in the past, including one Car/Driver did based on a second or third gen Civic back in the 70's. Performance was awesome, although handling required a good deal of sorting. Ran auto transmissions to avoid the nightmare of synchronizing shifting and clutches.
I had a friend in Scotland that campaigned a dual engined Mini Cooper back in the sixties. They were very popular on the club circuits with those harboring a latent death wish. He got a works sponsorship and drove for Team Cooper for a couple of years, but ended his career when wife and kids took priority. He discovered that priority when he slow-rolled the little beast at speed on a road course in England. I've seen the pictures - the front engine staggered in a fast corner, and as the car goes upside down, all you can see through the windshield are EYES!
A retired executive now, his ride is considerably more upscale, but his driving style remains
There was a show on Spike or Speed or something like that, showed these guys building an "IS350". They took the engine out of the IS and slapped in a 350 (5.7 liter). It was pretty damn fast.
