Caddy XLR ...poorly glued corner windows???
http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...ad.php?t=17240
Came across this thread, and I'm personally as dumbfounded as the owners are. If Cadillac couldn't spot the flaw in this design prior to production, I have to wonder about what the engineers are thinking. Ouch.
I know all new cars have 'teething" problems, but...glued windows on a folding top???

That's dangerous!! I mean what if you are driving on the freeway and all of a sudden, your side window falls off!! What's worse, it could strike you instead and possibly killing the driver or anyone else. WTF was the engineers thinking. I'll definately complain to Cadillac!!
I'm not going to defend poor design, but this is actually no worse than what is happening on equally-priced Mercedes products and some BMW's. Like it or not, when you get away from Japanese makes (and especially Lexus), you increase your chances of having problems. Overall, though Cadillac today is making some respectable products....more so than in the past.

Well, less than it's dangerous, it's at worst a fairly minor engineering mistake that needs corrected, or at best an isolated incident involving this particular vehicle. But, assuming that it's an engineering mistake, I believe that it will be corrected (as an intrinsic XLR defect). As many on that caddy forum mentioned - the XLR is Cadillac's and pretty much all of GM's flagship - "image" - vehicle and I SERIOUSLY doubt that GM execs will let any major - as this would be; or even minor - defect on this car go unchecked.
If this is an isolated incident ... or even if this is an example of a Cadillac LEMON ... then sign me up!

There are far more horrific (not to mention chronic) incidents involving vehicles which could happen as a result of poor engineering. I'll save serious criticism for those major oversights.

That is pathetic. Cadillac better not screw up the high point they are at with crappy quality like this. This is the kind of thing expected of american companies that cadillac is suppose to prove wrong.

Let's not bash all Caddy's here.
Things are improving for them at least with the things they have been making for years. (low-tech, simple designs)
I start to get worried when GM starts to try to design complicated mechanisms and make them reliable.
A folding hardtop made by GM just gives me chills. That retractable roof thing GMC is whoring? Oh that will leak, sqeak, and be hated. (Just my shortsighted opinion).
Minor problems with this roof are not surprising (if not at least expected). I'm sure they will fix it update the design.

I think the XLR is a great move for Caddy but
1. 85k? R U serious?
2. Corvette based. Good and a bad thing.
3. Interior. Besides the current STS and DTS, I feel not surrounded by luxury at all.
4. Quality. I don't think GM realizes how hard it is for people to try their products after 30 years of crap. Some people simply won't give GM the light of day or any try.
I just think Caddy should have stuck to old peoples cars and DOMINATED that market. Hell, there are gonna be hella old people soon. They got fat retirement $$$$$ and what will they drive?
