Default Insurance on a JDM/ WHERE / WHO?

Hi, im having probs getting insurance on my 91 jdm soarer. Why? i still have the orig jap vin no's! [ not the standard US vin no's, so 99% of insurance co's are out! What i need is a specialist, maybe someone who deals Internationally, any ideas? The car is NOT old enough to be coverd by CLASSIC or VINTAGE!
[ JUST A SHOT IN THE DARK ]

Question: what do people do that visit the US on hols with there vehicles?

From what I heard the skylines can be registered as a special edition 240SX. Maybe you could go and try to pass your car as a special edition toyota tercel ( ) or a special edition lexus.

You can call the car whatever you want, unless you have the proper docs (us VIN, title, etc.) no one will talk to you. If anyone knows any diff, speak up. It would be great if there was another way, besides buying a vin at a chop shop. So, maybe I should clarify myself: There is no easy, legal way to get US vins. What BAZ needs is a specialist insurance company that will write a non-US market car for regular operation on highways. No standard line auto ins co will do this that I know of. Any insurance co. execs or underwriters out there???

OLT. Nothing was gotten straight/no status change,& no one wants to conform it!......I panicked at the 12month deadline into trying to do something but since then [ 18 months ] they have not botherd me, the gov that is,so am not gonna bother them anymore my luck that something will, now ive opened my mouth

Glenn, couldn't have put it better! thanx for the input

You would think after 18 months of insurance nothing would change, but the co say there has bin a crack down by the gov, so they have to fax on all visa's....... geez when will it end!!!

Sorry for the delay in replyng - probs with server? can't log in!! arghhhhh.

SO NO TAKERS THEN?

NOPE. No change in status really, so it just sits their in the garage!...quite depressing
I take the car out once a week just to charge the batt. I just stay local so as to not look for trouble!..the cops don't know what to do with me, & usually wave at me or just let me go! [ paper work ]

Question: what happens to the staus of a car after 15yrs [classic?] any exemptions/vin/insurance importing restrictions etc????
