Default Scion xA

Hey, I saw a white Scion xA on the road today, and I have to admit it looks pretty damn sweet! What do you guys think about them? True only 108hp, but with a manual combined with its low weight, it could be a fun toy. . .

it's fun to drive. Same with the xB. lacks power on freeways but for local driving they're enough. TRD will offer factory turbo kit in a short while.

From what I understand, TRD already has a supercharger for that motor. For the Xa or Xb. The new Tc can be ordered from the factory with a supercharger that bumps it upto 200 Hp. How many of you have seen the Scion Tc broshure? They have a picture of a matte black Xa with the TRD wheels. It looks sic! I told my wife that I want one for cruising around town. It looks like semi fodder for the freeway though. Ouch. Anyway, I am just agreeing with you. I think they have "looks" potential.

I was just surprised how SMALL the xB is in real life. I believe the xA is even smaller? From a young person (17) I hate the styling. For me at least this is one member of the demographic who give the first two Scions (NOT the tC) a HUGE

I don't think the Scion xa or xb is a nice looking car. But that's just my opinion. My brother likes the xa alot and almost got one!! Personally like the way the tc looks. It looks really sporty and luxurious and is priced right. I already have 2 friends at work who is waiting to trade their cars in for the tc. If you plan to buy a scion, wait for the tc to come out first and then you can decide!!

Don't Blitz and GReddy already have F/I kits for the xA and xB?
Since there was an Echo Hatchback Turbo concept at the Canadian autoshow of last year, it's plausible that there is already a kit in the works (if not already on the market) from Toyota/TRD (remembering the 3 share engines).

I'm in HK now, and there are a lot of small cars like the xA and xB... Personally, they look pretty cool (not good, but definitely cool in the xB case), and I'm a ripe old 20years old...

Of course, I'd still prefer an Echo HB turbo (the kit fitted to it at the show, as well as the colour was absolutely stunning... As much as an Echo could stun, anyway).

Arrow So-so

The center-mount speedometer and gauge package HAS to go. Other than that it should be a nice, useful entry-level hatchback with Toyota quality.

I've been seeing xB's everyday but I've only seen a handful of xA's.
I have to say that the xB has grown on me. The new xC is my favorite
however.

Have you guys noticed how many older people are buying Scion's?
At least every other one I see a person 35 and older is driving it. It's
funny that Toyota has developed a whole division specifically for young
people and this demographic seems to account for only about half the sales.

Did you know that the age of the average buyer for the Lexus IS300 is
younger than the average Scion buyer?

It was the same situation with the Echo. Toyota marketed it toward young people and ended up selling it to the same people buying Corollas and Camrys....people generally in their 40's.
One reason the IS300 sells to young people is that a lot of today's young people (not all) have money....or rich parents. Even so, Lexus' own figures show that more IS300's are reposessed for failure to meet the payments than any other Lexus product....even the expensive LS, LX, and SC.

The xB is simply too boxy....like the Honda Element. It will probably be blown all over the road in a strong crosswind, even with the forward-weight bias of FWD.

I really like the look of the xA. I almost got one, but went with the Civic coupe instead... and I'll tell you why. When I went to test drive the xA the first thing that turned me off was the fact that I went to put it in first and the console around the shifter popped off. Nothing screams cheap more than the product actually falling apart while in the process of selling it. Next was the space issue. You open up the rear hatch and there are the back seats... there's virtually no storage space. As for the road test, the car does get down the street pretty good and has admirable handiling characteristics. Despite the initial problem with the shifter console, the rest of the car seemed to be the epitome of Toyota quality... seemed incredibly solid on the road considering it's extremely low price. The only problem I had behind the wheel was the seating position. The seats are very upright and tall. The seating position reminded me of a truck or minivan. Add to those issues the fact that Honda was offering better financing than Toyota, and that's why I went with the Civic instead. Still, the Scion's are great looking little cars.
