Infiniti or Acura... ???
I had an '82 Maxima that went 260K miles...if they still built them that way, I'd buy in a heartbeat. The amusing thing was that car talked: lights are on, fuel level is low, parking brake is on..." The '85 Maxima SE 5spd was more fun to drive in a straight line but FWD is not my thing...that would rule out Acura in a nano second.
I also had an 89 Maxima SE that ran for 200K miles before I required any major repair. The tranny failed on me at about 200K miles. Other than that, everything and I mean everything else worked perfectly well. Even the AC worked when the car was over 12 years old!!!!
Of course all real cars are not FWD, so that effectively rules out Acura other than the NSX which is really nice.
I actually think Lexus has a combination of what Acura and Infiniti possess, but much better in quality and often in design.
If you live with long straight highways, places for speed, and Infiniti would be for me. Took a test drive on the FX45 and felt this was almost a bullet or an automotive cheetah, but on turns it tanked bad. However, Infiniti wins in design over Acura, except for the NSX. Suspensions are horrible on Infinitis.
Acura belongs in the area of high speed turns and maneuverability, but does not have the horsepower or torque compared to an Infiniti. Quality is better on an Acura.
It would still be a tossup. That is why I love Lexus.
Infinity for me.

I too had a Maxima that lasted almost to 200k. Mine was an '88 and got up to 183k before the tranny went. The engine still purred like a kitten however. I still wonder how long the thing would have lasted if I have rebuilt the tranny and put it back on the road instead of junking it.

I had a 89' Nissan Pulsar that I drove for 3 years before I finally sold it last year.
It had 140k miles and no matter how much I trash it, the only thing it ever needed was an oil change.
As reliable as the Lexus is, so far I've prob. spent more money in my car's maintenance than the value of my ex-Pulsar.

I should say the new TL/TSX. The only thing Infinity have right now that I like is the G35 coupe thats it, everything else is a bit too Si Fi for me.
Still, they are basically Nissans underneath, which I hardly consider a solid platform from which to start. Resale value is still horrible, and a lot of their designs, while innovative, are too gaudy (G35) or plain (Q45, M45) for me.
I've had great luck with the two Acuras I've owned, and their designs are also coming out of their vanilla funk. Customer service is great, build quality is second only to Lexus, and I think they win hands-down in the value-for-the-money category.
Yup, Acura over Infiniti for me.
(P.S. Does anyone else find it funny how many people don't know that the brand name of Nissan's upscale division ends with an "I"?)
Infiniti's designs have come a LONG way in the past couple of years. The FX45 actually intrigues me a lot, although my wife says she'll divorce me if I buy "that butt-ugly thing".

The FX35 doesn't have as much power but drives much more comfortably....its tires and suspension aren't quite as hard-core.
My first choice between Acura or Infiniti? Probably a tossup between the I35 and the G35 All-Wheel Drive.
The I35 ( which is being phasd out ) has a nice interior and good fit-and finish.....MUCH better than current Infinitis. The G35's fit-and finish, like most newer Infinitis, is distinctly cheaper-looking, but it is an excellent sports sedan, and I like the AWD option and the tilt-gauge panel that moves up and down with the stering wheel. My second choice would be the Acura TSX......a good bargain for the price. Even though it has a 200 HP VTEC four instead of the TL's 270 HP V6, it looks just as good inside as the TL but is a lot cheaper.
