The Towing Thread. Haul cargo & your butts inside.
Alright ladies & gents it’s simple enough. What vehicles do you tow with? What vehicle are you looking at to tow with? Share your towing experiences good and bad!
2011 Sequoia platinum with the flex fuel engine, does what I need it to do very well. I would LIKE to have a TDI Q7 but the Toyota is objectively less headache to own and for what I need I already have it etc
I have my good old X5 that is rated for 6,000lbs tow in the US, but it's actually rated for 7,200lbs in other markets. I've towed u-haul trailers with 3 bikes with it, but I hate towing because I have no idea how to park with a trailer, lol. I generally just use a hitch mount bike carrier to carry my bikes.
Last year at the track, a guy towed his bike trailer with his S2K. Huge props.

Damn! He's the coolest guy there, can track the tow car haha!
Seeing your bike just reminded me of happened, that sucked so bad

Pic for attention
I think the plane and the truck are a little out of scale.
BTW.....if my memory is correct, that "Lizard Lick Towing" truck is from an old TV reality-show about a repo-business in NC, near Raleigh. I watched it a number of times.

Nice set up.
That looks more convenient than pulling a bike trailer.
Oh it is much more convenient. I have no idea how to park with a trailer, so it becomes a shitshow. I tried carrying the bike in the van, but after tearing up the tires at the track and putting the bike in the van, smelling burnt rubber the whole way home sucks. And another huge plus of a hitch carrier, if I take the dirt bike to the trails, I then pull into a bay car wash and blast all the mud off.
I don't know if you guys know this, but on a flat plane once you get something rolling, it takes almost no effort to keep it going. As a kid back in physics class they had us push a train car on tracks as an experiment, it took no effort at all. Something with rubber tires on pavement will have much more rolling resistance of course, and any sort of grade changes everything.
looks impressive until you remember there's only about an 800 lb weight difference between a V10 touareg and a 747
Oh it's even worse, THAT particular V10 was loaded with 4000lb (or some insane number like that) extra weight to have enough traction to get the plane to move and make the air sus beg for its life.
EDIT: yeah I was wrong, it was 4.3 tons added. EDIT: Holy **** it was imperial tons, 15,498lb added ballast
Nice job Toyota, you made one hell of a strong transmission!
