lucid engineering is first rate. but they’ve been trying to out tesla Tesla, the lucid air is like the model s and now the gravity is like the model x. different pros/cons of course, and the lucid models are excellent, BUT it’s hard to scale when you’re just a bit better than the market leader. you typically have to do something different like rivian did. lucid needs something truly unique. the gravity looks like it checks about every box there is, but it’s a pile of money in non-base trim.

I think the Air and the Gravity are better than the Model S and X, but you are right that the vibe is similar and the client they are targeting is similar. It’s like Tesla with a more mid century modern aesthetic and elevated.

I feel that Lucid is targeting the luxury market way more than Tesla, I am just not sure there are as many buyers for those cars. It’s not like the Model S sells in large numbers. The Lucid in comparison is way more luxurious than the S as are many cars. The S does what it does well but to me it isn’t close to being a luxury car.

I suspect S and X sell to tech focused buyers and despite great mechanical and electric design from what I've heard the lucid software is terrible.

Lucid software is much, much better than it was. They still obviously trail with autonomous driving.

My friend has an Air, which I posted a picture of earlier this year. He tells me the software has improved, but is still half baked. He won't be getting another one after his lease is up. Regardless if it more luxurious than an S, I would still get an S over it. The comfort the S gives is plenty for me. With EV'S, software is half the battle, and the S has that down tight

I would choose the Air over the S every time.

I would lease a Lucid, but not buy, but I guess that's the same for the Tesla to some extent, though I did buy my Model Y. I think the future of the company is still risky even with the Saudi money.
I did sit in the gravity since they have one in the mall I frequent, and liked the interior more than that of the Air. I would choose gravity over S and X, but maybe would choose the S over Air.

Personally, I won't buy any EV, only lease. Interior of the Gravity is definitely a step above the Air. My wife wants the Gravity, will have to see what the deals look like this summer when the lease is up on the Pacifica.

LOL, thats not true though. I would buy many cars...my own personal situation makes leasing better for me but I actually wouldn't buy *any* EV because of the downside depreciation risk. If I didn't get a tax benefit from leasing I would buy ICE cars.

leasing seems to be the right thing to do for EVs

I would agree on most, but Tesla is a little different. It seems to get better with age, thanks to SW updates.
